Abstract

본 발명은, 계조표시의 광학적특성을 고려하며, 계조의 밸런스가 사람의 눈에 균등하게 보이는 다계조표시장치를 제공하는 것을 목적으로한 것으로서 그 구성에 있어서, 매트릭스위에 배열한 화소부(20)와, 계조표시정보를 가진 표시데이터를 상기 화소부에 인가하는 전압으로 변환하는 데이터변환부(14)와, 또, 각 색표시데이터(1)~(3)를 액정표시데이터(8)로 변화하는 액정구동신호생성부(7)와, 액정표시데이터(8)에 따라서, 8레벨의 전압으로 부터 1레벨을 선택출력하는 8레벨데이터 드라이버(14)와, 인접하는 계조간의 색차가 거의 균등하게 되는 8레벨액정인가전압(13)을 생성하는 8레벨액정인가전압생성부(12)를 구비하는 것을 특징으로 한 것이며, 이로써, 인접하는 계조간의 색차를 거의 균등하게 하므로써, 사람의 눈에 균등하게 보이는 다계조표시를 실현할 수 있는 것이다.

본 내용은 요부공개 건이므로 전문내용을 수록하지 않았음
제1도는 본 발명을 사용한 8계조표시장치의 일실시예의 블록도, 제2도는 본 발명을 사용한 16계조표시장치의 일실시예의 블록도, 제3도는 제1도에 표시한 액정구동신호생성수단의 동작타이밍도, 제4도는 제1도에 표시한 액정패널의 화소구성도.

Claims (10)

  1. 매트릭스위에 배열한 다수의 화소를 가진 표시디바이스에 다계조표시를 행하는 다계조표시장치이며, 1화소당복수비트의 다계조표시정보를 받아서, 이 다계조표시정보를 상기 표시디바이스의 수평 1라인분의 표시데이터로 순차적으로 변환하는 데이터변환수단과, 상기 1화소당 복수비트의 다계조정보에 의해 표시가능한 복수계조의 색차가 거의 균등하게 되는 복수레벨의 구동전압을 생성하는 구동전압생성수단과, 이 구동전압생성수단 및 상기 데이터변환수단에 접속되고, 상기 데이터변환수단으로부터 출력되는 표시데이터에 따라서, 상기 표시디바이스의 1라인상의 화소마다 상기 구동전압생성수단으로부터의 복수레벨의 전압의 1개를 선택해서 상기 표시디바이스에 인가하는 데이터구동수단과, 상기 데이터변환수단 및 상기 데이터구동수단의 동작에 동기하고, 상기 표시디바이스의 순차적으로 표시해야할 수평라인을 선택하는 주사구동수단을, 구비한 것을 특징으로 하는 다계조표시장치.
  2. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 구동전압생성수단은, 액정구동용 기준전압을 미리 정한 다른분압비의 분압저항군에 의해 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 다계조표시장치.
  3. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 표시디바이스의 화소부의 각 화소는, 스위칭소자와 이 스위칭소자에 의해 제어되는 액정으로 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 다계조표시장치.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 표시디바이스의 화소부에 있어서, Red, Green, Blue의 3화소로 1표시도트가 구성되고, 상기 구동전압의 레벨수를 M으로 하면, M의 3승색의 컬러표시를 행할 수 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 다계조표시장치.
  5. 제4항에 있어서, 상기 데이터변환부를 Red, Green, Blue 각각 독립으로 형성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 다계조표시장치.
  6. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 다계조표시정보는 1화소 m(m은 2이상의 정수)비트이며, 상기 구동전압생성수단 M레벨(M=2 m승)의 구동전압을 생성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 다계조표시장치.
  7. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 다계조표시정보는 1화소 m비트에 추가된 1비트를 가지고, 상기 구동전압생성수단, 2개의 다른 레벨의 구동전압을 프레임마다 교호로 절환하여 출력하는 전압절환수단을 가지고, 이 전압절환수단을 사용해서 상기 M레벨의 구동전압에 의거하여 실질적으로 N레벨(N은 2의(m+1)승)의 구동전압을 생성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 다계조표시장치.
  8. 제7항에 있어서, 상기 구동전압생성수단은, 인접하는 계조의 색차의 오차를 ±50%이내로 한것을 특징으로 하는 다계조표시장치.
  9. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 구동전압생성수단은, 2개의 다른 레벨의 구동전압을 프레임마다 교호로 절환하여 출력하는 전압절환수단을 가지고, 상기 구동전압의 레벨수를 M으로 하면, 실질적으로 N레벨(N〉M)의 구동전압을 생성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 다계조표시장치.
  10. 제9항에 있어서, 상기 구동전압생성수단은, 인접하는 계조의 색차의 오차를 ±50%이내로 한것을 특징으로하는 다계조표시장치.
