Abstract

PURPOSE: A runner for preventing hot metal from flowing into blast furnace slag is formed by installing dam into the runner to reduce flow rate to result in extensive residence time of the hot metal within the runner. CONSTITUTION: A runner apparatus is operated by separating hot metal and slag in a runner having a skimmer (3), discharging such hot metal through an outlet and has a dam (7) hollowed on its lower part, which is attached near inflow area of the runner. The skimmer serves to separate the hot metal and the slag based on the difference of specific gravities therebetween. Also, a hollowed pore, at lower part of the dam, through which the molten iron can be passed. The dam is preferably installed at lower part of a slag zone (4). The slag zone is positioned at a point higher than upper part of a metal zone (6).
