Description

액정 표시 패널의 제조 방법과 제조 장치{MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND MANUFACTURING DEVICE OF LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL}The manufacturing method and manufacturing apparatus of a liquid crystal display panel {MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND MANUFACTURING DEVICE OF LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL}

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a method and a manufacturing apparatus for a liquid crystal display panel, and more particularly, to a method and a manufacturing apparatus for a liquid crystal display panel in which a pair of glass substrates are bonded and sealed with a sealing material using a thermosetting resin.

In the liquid crystal display panel, a liquid crystal layer having a thickness of about 4 μm is sandwiched and held on two glass substrates. In order to seal a liquid crystal layer, the periphery of a liquid crystal layer is surrounded by the sealing material. The sealing material seals the liquid crystal layer and at the same time, also serves as an adhesive for bonding two glass substrates.

When bonding a pair of glass substrates with the sealing material using a thermosetting resin, hardening of a thermosetting resin is performed by a heating and pressurization furnace. A plurality of overlapping glass substrates were sandwiched by a heating plate, and pressure was applied to cure the thermosetting resin at once. Such a batch hot press device requires a large area and becomes large and expensive.

MEANS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM This inventor tried to implement | achieve the apparatus which hardens by the heating and pressurization of the overlapping board | substrate which superimposed the pair of glass substrates which comprise a liquid crystal display panel through a thermosetting resin by the single | leaf type which processes one superposition board one by one. In this case, when the pre-curing step is to be a single sheet hot press, a processing time in units of time is required to process one overlapping substrate. Therefore, using only one hot press results in significantly lower throughput.

By the way, thermosetting resin generate | occur | produces some bond strength (bonding strength), when the curing crosslinking reaction advances to some extent. Therefore, the method of dividing the curing crosslinking reaction into a precuring crosslinking reaction for preliminary curing crosslinking and a main curing crosslinking reaction for perfecting the curing crosslinking reaction was treated with a single sheet hot press and a batch heating furnace. From the compatibility with other manufacturing processes, when precure was going to be carried out by sheet type, it was thought that it is preferable to carry out multiple hot presses in parallel, and to divide precure into 2 or more steps.

However, when such preliminary curing is performed, a positional deflection occurs between the pair of substrates of the overlapped substrate, or a distortion occurs in the overlapped substrate, and thus, a correction cannot be made in a subsequent step.

An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a liquid crystal display panel which can perform a step of bonding a pair of substrates of a liquid crystal display panel with a thermosetting resin using single sheet preheating.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a manufacturing apparatus suitable for carrying out the above-described manufacturing method.

It is still another object of the present invention to provide a manufacturing method which can effectively utilize a limited area and can efficiently manufacture a liquid crystal display panel.

(Example of the invention)

Prior to the description of the present invention, the contents of a preliminary experiment conducted by the present inventors will be described. 7A to 7D are schematic side views for explaining the hot press step for sheet type pre-curing employed by the present inventors and the like.

As shown to FIG. 7A, the hot presses 110 and 120 are arrange | positioned in parallel, and the superimposition board | substrate 131, 132, 133 is conveyed by the conveying apparatus 105 comprised with the roller. In the hot presses 110 and 120, the pair of glass substrates in which the lower plates 114 and 124 and the upper plates 112 and 122 overlap with each other through the thermosetting resin is pressed and heated.

The state of FIG. 7A shows a state where the overlapping substrate 131 is heated and pressed in the hot press 120, and the overlapping substrate 132 is heated and pressed in the hot press 110.

7B shows a state in which a predetermined time has elapsed and the heat transfer plates 112 and 122 are raised to convey the overlapping substrate to the transfer device 105. In this state, each of the overlapping substrates is moved by one.

7C shows a state in which the overlapping substrate is conveyed by one unit. The superimposed substrate 131 is finished and conveyed out of the hot press, and the superimposed substrate 132 subjected to the hot press process of the first half in the hot press 110 is arranged to perform the latter half of the process in the hot press 120 of the next stage. do. The overlapping substrate 133 is newly loaded into the hot press 110. In addition, the next overlapping substrate 134 waits.

FIG. 7D shows a state in which the upper heat plates 112 and 122 are lowered, and the overlapping substrates 133 and 132 are pressed and heated. The overlapping substrates 132 and 133 are sandwiched between the upper heat plates 122 and 112 and the lower heat plates 124 and 114, and are pressed and heated by heat conduction.

Thus, the pair of glass substrates which passed through the two stages of the precure processes were joined by sufficient strength with the thermosetting resin.

However, positional deflection and distortion may occur in the superimposed board | substrate which carried out the precure in this way.

The inventors have investigated what causes such positional deflection or distortion.

7E is a graph showing the temperature change of the overlapped substrate subjected to the preliminary curing treatment. The horizontal axis shows elapsed time t, and the vertical axis shows temperature T. When heated and pressurized by a 1st stage hot press, as shown by the linear part HP1, temperature rises almost linearly. However, when moving from the first stage hot press to the second stage hot press, the temperature drops rapidly in the first stage, continues to return to the original temperature, and rises almost linearly again when the processing of the second stage hot press starts.

The cause of the sudden drop in substrate temperature with multi-stage hot press was investigated. When the substrate is subjected to the first stage hot press and then moved to the second stage hot press, the heat plates 112 and 122 first rise. Then, ambient air around the superimposed substrate flows in. Outside air is significantly lower than the heating temperature of the hot press.

Therefore, the substrate temperature drops sharply. However, since it is arrange | positioned on the lower plate 114, the temperature range which falls is not so big. When the substrate is conveyed from the first stage hot press 110 to the second stage hot press 120, the substrate is placed on the lower heating plate 132 again. In the intermediate state of conveyance, the surface and lower surface of a board | substrate are exposed to surrounding atmosphere, and it causes a temperature fall.

When the second stage hot press is carried in and placed on the lower plate 124 and the upper plate 122 falls and the second stage hot press process is started, the temperature rises again.

The curing crosslinking reaction proceeds rapidly at higher temperatures. Therefore, when performing multistage hot press processing, it is common to set the temperature as high as the hot press of the rear stage. For example, the heating temperature of the 1st stage hot press 110 is set to 100 degreeC-150 degreeC, and the heating temperature of the 2nd stage hot press 120 is set to 150 degreeC-200 degreeC.

However, hardening crosslinking reaction of a thermosetting resin is not fully progressing in the state moving from a 1st stage hot press to a 2nd stage hot press. In this state, the substrate is quenched and thermal distortion occurs. Moreover, a mechanical stress also acts when conveyed by conveyance mechanisms, such as a roller. These stresses cause a pair of substrates that have not yet been joined to sufficient strength, or distort the overlapping substrates.

An embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. 1A to 1F show a superposition bonding process of a pair of glass substrates.

As shown in Fig. 1A, the upper plate US and the lower plate LS are prepared. On each board | substrate, a required electrode and an active element (color filter as needed) are formed, and the coating orientation process of the oriented film is performed.

As shown in FIG. 1B, the seal 11 is formed with respect to the said board US. As shown in Fig. 2A, the seal 11 includes a fiber spacer 11b and a conductive spacer 11d sandwiched between the outer seal 11a and the inner seal 11c.

The conductive spacer 11d is intended for electrical conduction between the upper plate US and the lower plate LS, and is disposed in a spot at a necessary position. The fibrous pacer 11b is a spacer for holding the upper plate US and the lower plate LS at predetermined intervals during the superimposition process.

The seal 11 is formed along the periphery of the upper plate US, and forms an injection hole 13 with some interval.

As shown in FIG. 1C, the spacer 12 is spread | dispersed on the base board LS. The spacer 12 is a spacer for maintaining the gap between the upper plate US and the lower plate LS at a set value in the display area. As shown in Fig. 1D, the upper plate US is turned over, moved onto the lower plate LS, and aligned to overlap. In this way, an overlapping substrate is prepared.

Fig. 2B is a sectional view schematically showing the configuration of the overlapping substrate. The upper plate US and the lower plate LS are arranged to face each other through a predetermined interval. In the display area in the center of the figure, the spacer 12 defines the distance between the two substrates. In the periphery of a board | substrate, the space | interval of a pair of board | substrates is defined by the seal | sticker 11 which inserted the fibrous facer as a sealing material.

As shown in FIG. 1E, the overlapping substrate is loaded into a hot press, sandwiched between the lower plate LHP and the upper plate UHP, and pressed and heated. Moreover, in order to prevent damage of a glass substrate, the buffer material BF is provided in at least one of the upper heat plate UHP and the lower heat plate LHP.

The superposed substrate is heated and pressurized in the hot press apparatus and the hot press is continued until sufficient preliminary strength is generated. Preferably it precures to the hardening rate of 40 to 95%. Below 35% reserve strength may be insufficient. Attempting to achieve a cure rate above 96% complicates the hot press device or lengthens the time needed for hot press, thereby reducing throughput.

As shown in Fig. 1F, after sufficient preliminary strength is generated, the overlapping substrate is loaded into the curing furnace, and pressurized to completely cure the yarn 11 formed of the thermosetting resin.

In the preliminary curing step by hot pressing, the heating temperature is slightly changed by the thermosetting resin used. When an epoxy resin is used as a thermosetting resin, heating temperature is 80 degreeC-180 degreeC. When acrylic resin was used as a thermosetting resin, heating temperature range is 80 degreeC-150 degreeC. When phenol novolak resin was used as a thermosetting resin, heating temperature is 80 degreeC-230 degreeC. In addition, the pressing force is in the range 0. 1Kg / cm 2 ~3Kg / cm 2.

Preliminary hardening is performed until sufficient bonding strength is obtained so that distortion and curvature of a position may not arise in an overlapping board | substrate by conveyance and a thermal change. It is preferable to perform a hot press treatment for at least two minutes.

FIG. 3 is a plan view schematically showing the configuration of a hot press apparatus for superimposing a pair of glass substrates shown in FIG. 1. The controller 20 controls the entire hot press device. The loader 21 includes two unit loaders 21a and 21b, and receives the overlapping substrates, respectively, and sends the overlapping substrates to the hot press device 25 through the transfer mechanism 23. In the hot press apparatus 25, four hot presses 25a, 25b, 25c, and 15d are arranged.

The hot presses 25a and 25b receive the overlapping substrates sent out from the unit loader 21a. The hot presses 25c and 25d receive the overlapping substrates sent out from the unit loader 21b.

The superimposed substrate subjected to the preliminary curing treatment by hot pressing (heating and pressing) in the hot press device 25 is joined by the conveying mechanism 27 and carried into the cassette 31 via the conveying mechanism 29. The cassette 31 can accommodate a plurality of overlapping substrates. After the predetermined number of sheets accommodates the overlapping substrate, the cassette 31 is carried into the curing furnace 35 through the transfer mechanism 33.

In the hardening furnace 35, the thermosetting resin of each overlapping board | substrate receives this hardening process. By the main curing treatment, the thermosetting resin is completely cured. For example, the heat processing in the hardening furnace 35 is performed about 1 hour or more at the temperature of the heating temperature range mentioned above. It is desirable to achieve a curing rate of nearly 100%. The superimposed board | substrate which completed this hardening process is conveyed to the unloader 39 through the conveyance mechanism 37 for every cassette. In the unloader 39, the overlapping substrates are taken out one by one from the cassette, and are sent out in a later step through the transfer mechanism 41.

In the hot press apparatus 25, two hot presses 25a and 25b perform one series of hot press processing, and the other two hot presses 25c and 25d perform another one series of hot press processing. In the hot press device 25, a plurality of series of sheet type hot press processes are performed.

4A to 4G are schematic side views for explaining a single sheet hot pressing process.

As shown in FIG. 4A, the hot presses 25a and 25b are disposed adjacent to each other and are coupled by a conveyance mechanism 24 provided with a roller. Moreover, as a conveyance mechanism provided with a roller, a well-known mechanism may be sufficient and other elements, such as a pusher, are also provided. The conveyance mechanism 23 with a roller is arrange | positioned at the upstream of the hot press 25a, and the conveyance mechanism 27 with a roller is arrange | positioned downstream of the hot press 25b. 4A shows a state in which two heat insulating plates UHP are raised together. In this state, the overlapping substrate 51a is first loaded into the downstream hot press 25b.

As shown in FIG. 4B, the next overlapping substrate 51b is carried into the upstream hot press 25a. In addition, the downstream hot press 25b which finished the carrying-in process of the superimposition board | substrate during the process of carrying in the carrying-in process of the superimposition board | substrate 51b to the hot press 25a starts the descending process of the top plate UHP. Also in the upstream hot press 25a, after carrying-in of the superimposition board | substrate 51b is complete | finished, the descending process of the heat insulation board UHP is started.

As shown in FIG. 4C, first, in the downstream hot press 25b, the upper heat plate UHP presses the overlapping substrate 51a from above to start the pressurizing and heating process. In this state, in the upstream hot press 25a, the heat transfer plate UHP does not reach the surface of the overlapping substrate 51b.

FIG. 4D shows a state in which the upper heat plate UHP is in contact with the trademark surface of the superimposed substrate 51b also in the upstream hot press 25a and starts the pressurization and heating process. This pressurized and heated state (hot press) is continued for a predetermined time.

4E shows a state in which a predetermined processing time has elapsed in the downstream hot press 25b, and the heat insulating plate UHP starts to rise. For example, after the hot plate UHP reaches the overlapping substrate 51 and starts to pressurize and heat, if the hot press time of 2 minutes or more (for example, 3 minutes) elapses, the heat plate UHP will rise. To start.

FIG. 4F shows a state in which the set processing time ends even in the upstream hot press 25a, and the heat transfer plate UHP starts to rise. In addition, in the downstream hot press 25b, since the top plate UHP has risen enough, the conveyance mechanism 27 comprised with a roller carries out the superimposition board | substrate 51a.

4G shows a state where the overlapped substrate 51b is taken out from the upstream hot press 25a following the unloading of the overlapped substrate 51a. Moreover, on the conveyance path 23, the two superimposition board | substrates 51c and 51d which are to be processed next are conveyed.

Thereafter, the overlapping substrate 51c is transferred to the downstream hot press 25b to return to the state of FIG. 4A. In addition, in the apparatus of FIG. 3, hot presses 25c and 25d perform the same operations as hot presses 25a and 25b. Therefore, the working efficiency as the whole hot press 25 doubles as shown in FIG.

In the hot press processing performed by a plurality of hot presses, the timing of the start and end described above is shifted, but the main parts shown in FIG. 4D are performed in parallel. The hot press process performed by a plurality of hot presses is the same hot press process having the same pressure and temperature.

In the preliminary experiment shown in Fig. 7, two hot presses were used for the hot press treatment of two stages of pressurization. It is necessary to convey an overlapping board | substrate to a downstream hot press after the process of the first half with an upstream hot press for a two stage process. In this conveyance process, there existed a possibility that an overlapping board | substrate may receive the thermal stress and mechanical stress which generate | occur | produce a distortion and curvature of a position.

According to the hot press process of Fig. 4, the two overlapping substrates are continuously loaded into the hot press, the hot press processing is performed in parallel with the two hot presses, and the two overlapping substrates are sequentially taken out after the end of the hot press processing. . Since two hot presses are used as the processing efficiency and the hot press processing for a predetermined time length is performed, the working efficiency hardly changes in the hot press processing of FIGS. 4 and 7.

According to the hot press process of Fig. 4, one overlapping substrate is held in a pressurized and heated state between the pair of hot plates until the preliminary curing process is completed. Therefore, the distortion or warpage of the position between the overlapping substrates cannot occur.

In addition, a configuration in which a plurality of hot presses are connected in series and the serial connections are further connected in parallel are described. The number of hot presses connected in series and the number of hot press series connected in parallel can be appropriately increased or decreased depending on the conditions. A plurality of types of superimposed substrates may be processed by dividing the series. In this case, the hot press conditions may be different for each series. The number of hot presses connected in series may be changed by series.

In the apparatus of FIG. 3, the controller 20 may control to gradually increase the heating temperature in accordance with the progress of the hot press processing to each hot press. It is also possible to control the operation timings of the loaders 21a and 21b and the downstream hot presses.

Although the case where a hot press is arrange | positioned in parallel was demonstrated, the same process can also be performed using another structure.

5A to 5C show a configuration other than the parallelism.

In FIG. 5A, a conveyance path 61 is provided between the loader 60 and the unloader 68. Six hot presses 66a to 66f are disposed adjacent to the conveyance path 61. The thermal chamber 67 surrounds six hot presses, and keeps the inside at a predetermined temperature to reduce the influence of the outside air temperature. The same thermal chamber can be installed in the hot press device 25 shown in FIG.

In the conveyance path 61, the conveyance path 62 which runs from the loader 60 toward the unloader 68, and the branch path 63 which branch off from the conveyance path 62 and connect to each hot press are provided.

The conveyance robot 64 is provided in the conveyance path 61. The conveyance robot 64 can move along the conveyance paths 62 and 63, and can transfer an overlapping substrate by the rotation of a rotating shaft and the expansion and contraction of an arm. In other words, the robot 64 receives the overlapping substrate from the loader, passes it to any one of the hot presses, receives the overlapping substrate which has been processed from one of the hot presses, and passes it to the unloader 68.

In the six hot presses 66a to 66f, the same hot press processing is performed in parallel.

Moreover, using the thing which has two arms as the conveyance robot 64, one superimposition board | substrate is carried out from the loader 60, the superimposition board | substrate processed by any one of the hot presses 66 is received, and it is newly unprocessed. The superimposed substrate may be carried in and the superimposed substrate which has been processed may be carried out to the unloader 68.

In FIG. 5A, a case where a plurality of hot presses are arranged on one side of the conveying path 61 is shown.

5B shows a configuration in which a plurality of hot presses are disposed on both sides of the conveyance path 61, respectively. Three hot presses 66a, 66b, 66c are arranged adjacent to each other on the left side of the conveying path 61, and a thermal chamber 67a is formed around them. The same (3) hot presses 66d, 66e, 66f are arranged adjacent to each other on the right side of the conveying path 61, and a thermal chamber 67b is formed around them. The robot 64 receives the overlapping substrates from the loader 60, exchanges the overlapping substrates to one desired six hot presses, and receives the overlapping substrates that have been processed from the hot presses that have completed the processing. 68) can be taken out. In addition, it is also possible to continuously carry in and unload the overlapping substrate using a carrier robot having two arms, as shown in Fig. 5A.

5C shows a configuration in which six hot presses 66a to 66f are disposed around the polygonal conveyance chamber 61. The loader 60 and the unloader 68 are provided at positions opposite to the transfer chamber 61. The position of the loader and the unloader is not limited to the opposing positions. Each hot press 66a-66f is surrounded by the thermal chambers 67a-67f. In this case, the robot 64 does not need to be parallel, but only needs to rotate around the rotating shaft and expand and contract the arm.

Moreover, various things can be employ | adopted as a conveyance mechanism.

6A to 6C show an example of the transport mechanism. In Fig. 6A, as in the case shown in Fig. 5, the transfer robot 64 constitutes a transfer mechanism. For example, the transfer robot 64 transfers the overlapping substrate between the loader 60 and the hot press 66.
