이산화규소 및 이산화규소를 함유한 광물을 이용한 리튬 이차전지용 음극활물질 및 그 제조방법{ANODE ACTIVE MATERIALS USING SiO2 AND MINERALS CONTAINING SiO2 FOR LITHIUM SECONDARY BATTERIES AND PREPARATION METHOD OF THE SAME}ANODE ACTIVE MATERIALS USING SiO2 AND MINERALS CONTAINING SiO2 FOR LITHIUM SECONDARY BATTERIES AND PREPARATION METHOD OF THE SAME}

The present invention relates to a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery using a silicon dioxide and a mineral containing silicon dioxide, and a method for manufacturing the same, and more specifically, comprising mechanically grinding and alloying mineral particles containing silicon dioxide or silicon dioxide. It relates to a method for producing a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery and a negative electrode active material containing silicon dioxide.

With the rapid development of portable electronic communication devices and the rise of energy and environmental problems, the importance of a secondary battery as a portable power source and a driving source of a next-generation automobile has been highlighted. In particular, since the energy density of lithium reaches 3860 mAh / g, there is an advantage that the capacity of a secondary battery using lithium metal as a negative electrode material is very large. However, when lithium metal is used as a negative electrode material, there is a risk that the battery is shorted due to dendritic growth in the charging process, and there is a problem that the charge and discharge efficiency is low.

In order to solve the above problems of lithium metal, research is being conducted on materials capable of alloying with lithium. Lithium alloy materials can realize higher charge / discharge capacities per weight / volume than the limited capacities of currently used carbon anode active materials, and can be used for high charge / discharge currents. However, the lithium alloy material has a phase change in the charge and discharge process, resulting in a volume change, and the stress generated therefrom shortens the electrical contact by destroying the electrode material and at the same time reduces the capacity of the cycle. there was.

Therefore, at present, researches for applying various materials such as silicon and tin as negative electrode materials of secondary batteries have been actively conducted. In this method, first, a metal precursor of silicon or tin is uniformly mixed in a liquid phase with carbon, and then evaporated under normal temperature to precipitate all of the contained silicon or tin and metal in carbon to be used as an electrode active material.

However, the method has the problem that the electrode capacity increases during the initial several cycles, but the initial efficiency is not good, and the fast charge and discharge characteristics and the cycle characteristics are still not improved.

On the other hand, silicon has a capacity of 4400 mAh / g, and has the advantage of having a superior charge and discharge capacity than the current commercially available carbon anode (372 mAh / g) material. However, the electrode using silicon has the disadvantage that the electrode is destroyed due to volume expansion (400%) during the initial charge and discharge.

As a way to minimize the capacity reduction due to the volume change, it has been proposed to use nanoparticle sized powders. However, nano-sized powders are prepared using complex chemical methods such as reduction or coprecipitation, and have a problem in that initial efficiency is very low due to irreversible side reactions caused by salts generated during the chemical process.

Furthermore, the manufactured nanopowders are also expensive and agglomeration occurs to minimize surface energy during charging and discharging. Due to this phenomenon, the particles are coarsened, which also causes a volume change, thereby causing a sudden decrease in capacity due to electrode breakage.

In order to solve the above problems, the present invention is simple by mechanical grinding and alloying process of a negative active material for a lithium secondary battery including silicon dioxide having excellent charge and discharge capacity by using a low cost silicon dioxide or a mineral containing silicon dioxide. Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail in order to facilitate the present invention by those skilled in the art.

The present invention provides a method for producing a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery comprising the step of mechanically grinding and alloying mineral particles containing silicon dioxide or silicon dioxide.

Silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ) is a constituent of minerals most present on the earth, but is inexpensive, but is not known to be reactive with lithium, and thus has not been applied to conventional lithium secondary batteries. However, the manufacturing method of the present invention can significantly lower the unit cost by manufacturing a negative electrode active material of a lithium secondary battery from silicon dioxide or a mineral containing the same inexpensive. In addition, the silicon dioxide anode active material can be manufactured using only a simple mechanical grinding and alloying process, thereby simplifying the process and shortening the process time, thereby making it possible to manufacture an anode active material for a lithium secondary battery simply and efficiently.

The present invention may use silicon dioxide itself as a starting material or mineral particles containing silicon dioxide. The mineral is preferably at least one selected from the group consisting of feldspar, kaolin, iron olivine, and fluorite, but is not limited as long as it is a mineral containing silicon dioxide. Mineral particles comprising silicon dioxide can be sand or mud, for example.

The manufacturing method may further include a pretreatment step of heat-treating the mineral particles. In the case of minerals including water such as kaolin in the mineral, it is preferable to undergo a step of mechanical grinding and alloying after heat treatment (800 ℃ to 1500 ℃) as a pretreatment step. In addition, since minerals existing in nature can be used as starting materials, manufacturing processes can be greatly simplified and manufacturing costs can be reduced.

Mechanical grinding and alloying of the silicon dioxide or mineral particles comprising silicon dioxide is carried out. The mechanical grinding and alloying process may be used a mechanical grinding and alloying process of common compounds known to those skilled in the art.

Through the mechanical grinding and alloying process, several micrometer-sized silicon dioxide as a starting material is mechanically milled, and nanoparticles of Si and various kinds of amorphous SiO x are formed in the process. The process proceeds at room temperature, but the actual temperature in the reactor can be raised above 200 ° C. and the pressure can also be raised to 6 GPa. Silicon dioxide, which is mechanically crushed and alloyed under such high temperature and high pressure, exhibits a form in which silicon particles are dispersed in an amorphous silicon oxide (SiO x ) matrix. The average particle size of silicon in the negative electrode active material thus formed may be 100 nm or less, preferably 10 nm or less, more preferably 5 nm or less, react with lithium, and exhibit stable performance up to 200 cycles or more.

Preferably, the mechanical grinding and alloying may be by ball milling. Ball milling methods include, for example, vibratory mills, z-mills, planetary or attrition mills, and the like. energy mechanical milling) can be performed on all possible ball milling equipment.

Hereinafter, for example, look at the manufacturing process of the negative electrode active material by the ball milling of the present invention. First, silicon dioxide, which is an initial material, is placed in a cylindrical vial together with a ball and mounted on a high energy ball mill. By operating the number of revolutions of the ball milling machine 800 times per minute to perform a mechanical grinding and alloying process, it is possible to produce a silicon dioxide-containing negative electrode active material to which the silicon dioxide electrode and the additional element is added. Here, the weight ratio of the initial material to the ball is maintained at, for example, 10: 1 to 30: 1, and all assembly processes before starting ball milling are performed in an argon gas atmosphere glove box to prevent the inflow of oxygen and moisture. Preference is given to performing at.

In the present invention, the progress time of the mechanical grinding and alloying process is preferably 1 hour to 50 hours or less. If the time is excessively longer than this, the particle size of the silicon is coarsened, and agglomeration of the particles may occur, thereby degrading cycle performance.

The anode active material manufactured by the above-described manufacturing method can realize twice the capacity (about 750-800) compared to the graphite electrode (about 370), which is currently commercialized by silicon and silicon oxides reacting with lithium. Unlike the manufacturing method, since only the mechanical alloying process is used without a chemical treatment process, there is an advantage in simplifying the process and shortening the process time. In addition, since the agglomeration of the silicon particles does not appear during the continuous charging and discharging, there is no sudden degradation of performance.

In addition, an additive element may be added before or during the mechanical grinding and alloying step to allow the reaction to proceed with the silicon dioxide or the mineral particles containing silicon dioxide. That is, aluminum (Al), titanium (Ti), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), lithium (Li), zirconium (Zr), beryllium (Be), carbon (C), vanadium (V), chromium (Cr ), Manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), yttrium (Y), zirconium (Zr), niobium (Nb), molybdenum (Mo), zinc ( Zn) and tungsten (W) may be added to at least one element selected from the group consisting of mechanical grinding and alloying with silicon dioxide or mineral particles containing silicon dioxide. When an additional element is added, it is possible to minimize the irreversible capacity generated during charging and discharging of the electrode material when the amount of oxygen and silicon, which are the main causes of the irreversible capacity formed during charging (lithium insertion), is minimized. In addition, performance degradation due to volume change or grain coarsening can be minimized, and electrical conductivity of the electrode material can be improved, thereby improving life characteristics.

The addition time point of the additional element may be before the mechanical grinding and alloying process is started, or may be added during the alloying process for optimization.

The additive element is preferably 0.001 to 60% by weight based on the total weight of the negative electrode active material. When the added element is included in less than 0.001 to 60% by weight, the effect of the element addition may be insignificant, and when included in excess of 60% by weight, the capacity is reduced.

In addition, the present invention provides a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery containing silicon dioxide. The average particle size of silicon in the negative electrode active material of the present invention is 100 nm or less, preferably 10 nm or less, more preferably 5 nm or less, and has a nano size. Conventional silicon dioxide has not been used as a negative electrode active material of a battery because it is not reactive with lithium, but the negative electrode active material using the silicon dioxide of the present invention can act as a negative electrode active material having excellent performance by exhibiting the excellent capacity of the siliconized nanoparticles.

In the present invention, the silicon dioxide included in the negative electrode active material may be a composite phase containing silicon dioxide. That is, silicon dioxide is a composite phase of silicon and silicon oxide composed of Si and amorphous silicon oxides (SiO x ).

The negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery is aluminum (Al), titanium (Ti), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), lithium (Li), zirconium (Zr), beryllium (Be), carbon (C), Vanadium (V), Chromium (Cr), Manganese (Mn), Iron (Fe), Cobalt (Co), Nickel (Ni), Copper (Cu), Yttrium (Y), Zirconium (Zr), Niobium (Nb) , Molybdenum (Mo), zinc (Zn) and tungsten (W) may further include one or more elements selected from the group consisting of. In the case of further comprising the elements, it is possible to minimize the volume change occurring during charging and discharging, it is also possible to use the excellent capacity of silicon. Initial irreversible capacity may be reduced. Therefore, it is possible to simultaneously improve mechanical properties and electrochemical performance, which are one of the most important elements used as a negative electrode material of a lithium secondary battery. The weight ratio of the additive element and silicon dioxide is preferably 0.001: 100 to 60: 100. When the added element is included in more than the weight ratio range, the capacity is lowered, and when it is less than the weight ratio range, the effect of the initial efficiency increase is insignificant.

Cycle characteristics of the lithium secondary battery including the negative electrode active materials of Example 1-1 and Example 1-2 were measured. When aluminum (Al) was added to silicon dioxide, the increase in the initial efficiency was compared with the case containing only silicon dioxide. This is shown in FIG. 4.

As can be seen in Figure 4, it can be seen that the cycle performance is maintained excellent in Example 1-1. In addition, in Example 1-2 (when aluminum is added), the charging capacity was reduced, but compared to Example 1-1, the initial efficiency was increased, and the cycle performance was found to be maintained well.
