Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to an optical modulation system, and more particularly, to an optical modulation system using second harmonic generation and acoustic-light modulation.
A second harmonic oscillator pumped by a laser diode emitting light in the cyan area is a very useful light source for high density magneto-optical recording. A continuous wave cyan laser needs to be modulated to fit an input signal in order to be used in an information recording / reproducing device of audio / video (A / V). An optical modulator is used for such modulation, and the optical modulator is widely used as a high speed optical switch as an optical device using an acoustic-optic effect. Currently used optical modulation system has a largely divided into a light source applied to the second harmonic generation, a continuous wave in the blue green region, an optical modulation device applied to the acoustic-light effect, and an appropriate optical system for controlling the laser therebetween. The optical system needs to have a small diameter and parallel light of a beam passing through the optical modulation element in order to obtain the maximum light efficiency and short switching time when the optical modulation occurs by the acoustic-light effect, and the selection of a suitable lens for this requirement Requires an array.
The light source used in the conventional optical modulation system, that is, the second harmonic generator, is difficult to obtain a small diameter beam in structure. 1 shows a schematic structure of a conventional light modulation system. The optical modulation system includes a second harmonic generation unit 10, a light modulation unit 30, and a lens system 20 therebetween as a light source.
First, referring to the second harmonic generator 10, an input mirror 11 and an output mirror 15 for providing a resonance space are disposed at a predetermined optical distance, and an external pumping laser incident through the input mirror is disposed therebetween. A filter for removing the fundamental waves present therein and a beam splitter for reflecting a part of the second harmonic to form the reflected light 23 for use in the feedback device are provided in that order.
The optical modulator 30 is provided with an electrode 33 on one side of an acoustic-optic media 31 so that ultrasonic waves are generated by a voltage applied to the electrode 33 and thereby pass through the acoustic optical medium. The light is diffracted to obtain a zero order beam 34 and a primary beam 32.
On the other hand, the lens system provided between the second harmonic generator 10 and the optical modulator 30 is collimating lens (Collimating Lens, 21) for collimating the light transmitted through the beam splitter 17 and collimating Focusing lens 22 for focusing the laser beam transmitted through the lens 21 to the center of the optical modulation device.
In the conventional optical modulation system having the above structure, as described above, the distance between the second harmonic generator 10 and the lens system 20 is such that the filter 16 and the beam splitter of the second harmonic generator 10 17), there is a problem that can no longer be narrowed, and accordingly, it is difficult to increase the light modulation efficiency and shorten the switching time, and also to reduce the overall size.
