Abstract
Description
このうち、NOXを除去するための技術として、NOX触媒の上流側で排気通路内に還元剤を噴射し、排気ガスと還元剤とを混合した上でNOX触媒に流入させ、排気ガス中のNOX(NOやNO2)を窒素(N2)等に効率的に分解して放出する選択還元型の排気浄化装置(SCR:Selective Catalytic Reduction)が知られている。
この排気浄化装置310においては、排気ガス中に噴射された還元剤としての尿素水溶液が加水分解することによってアンモニア(NH3)が生成され、このNH3とNOXとがNOX触媒中で反応し、窒素(N2)や水(H2O)に分解されて放出されるものである。
すなわち、本発明の目的は、全体にわたって還元剤を均一に分散させた排気ガスを、下流側に配置されたNOX触媒に対して流入させることができる内燃機関の排気浄化装置を提供することである。
なお、図面中、同一の符号が付されたものについては同一の部材を示しており、適宜説明が省略されている。
図1は、本発明の実施の形態にかかる内燃機関の排気浄化装置(以下、単に「排気浄化装置」と称する)10の断面図を示している。
本実施形態にかかる排気浄化装置10は、排気ガスを排出する内燃機関5と、内燃機関5に接続された排気管25と、排気管25の途中に接続されたNOX触媒13と、NOX触媒13の上流側で排気通路内に還元剤を噴射する還元剤供給装置30とを備えている。また、NOX触媒13の上流側及び下流側には、上流側酸化触媒19及び下流側酸化触媒17がそれぞれ配置されている。
この還元剤供給装置30によって噴射される還元剤の量は、内燃機関5の回転数や負荷状態、燃料噴射量等を基に推定される排出NOX量に応じて決定され、この噴射量に応じて還元剤噴射弁35のDUTY制御が行われるようになっている。ただし、図1に示す還元剤供給装置30の構成は例示であって特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、エアアシスト式の還元剤供給装置を用いることもできる。
これ以外にも、未燃燃料(HC)等、NOXを還元させることができる材料を液体還元
剤として使用することができる。
この拡大管としては、図2(a)に示すテーパ管15以外にも図2(b)や(c)に例示されるような構成の拡大管15´、15´´であっても構わない。
また、ステンレスやアルミニウム等の熱伝導率が高い金属材料を用いて還元剤拡散手段11を構成した場合には、排気ガスによって熱せされた還元剤拡散手段11によって、排気ガス中に噴射された還元剤の蒸発が促進され、排気ガス中に効率的に拡散させることができる。したがって、還元剤が排気ガス全体にわたって均一に分散しやすくなる。
図3(a)は、多数の孔41aが穿設された多孔板41を示している。また、図3(b)〜(c)は、プレートの一部を切り立たせた複数のフラップを有するミキサ43A、43Bであり、図3(b)は、すべてのフラップ43aが同一面側に切り立つようにされ、図3(c)は、複数のフラップ43a、43bがそれぞれの面側に向けて切り立つようにされている。
また、図4(a)は、一枚のプレートがねじられて旋回路が形成されるスワールタイプのスタティックミキサ45を絞り部21に配置した例である。さらに、図4(b)に示すように、絞り部21の一部に還元剤の衝突部47aを複数形成して還元剤拡散手段47とすることもできる。
図5は、テーパ管15の絞り部21に複数のフラップを有するミキサ43Aを配置するとともに、テーパ管15の絞り部21よりも下流側にスワールタイプのスタティックミキサ45を配置した例を示している。この図5の例では、噴射された還元剤が、絞り部21に配置されたミキサ43Aを通過することによって微粒化されるとともに、比較的小さい渦流が生じることによって排気ガスとの混合が促進される。その後、排気ガスと混合された還元剤がスタティックミキサ45を通過することによって大きな渦流が発生し、還元剤の分布が均一化されるようになる。
このように配置すれば、還元剤の微粒化、拡散効果を最大限に得ることができるとともに、還元剤がNOX触媒13側への通路となる絞り部21以外の箇所に付着して結晶化するおそれを低減することができる。
かかる上流側ガイド部を備えることにより、絞り部21に導かれる排気ガスの流速が早められ、噴射された還元剤が還元剤拡散手段11以外の箇所に付着することを防ぎつつ、還元剤拡散手段11に流入させることができるようになる。
また、上流側酸化触媒19は、排気ガス中に含まれる未燃燃料(HC)や一酸化炭素(CO)を酸化することにより、その酸化熱を利用して排気ガスを昇温させることができる。したがって、比較的高温状態にされた排気ガスを還元剤拡散手段11やNOX触媒13に流入させることができ、還元剤拡散手段11を加熱するとともにNOX触媒13を昇温活性化させることができる。また、COが酸化されて生成されるCO2とCOとの比率を、NOX触媒13におけるNOXの還元効率が最適化されるように調整することもできる。
これらの上流側酸化触媒19及び下流側酸化触媒17としては、公知のもの、例えば、アルミナに白金を担持させたものに所定量のセリウム等の希土類元素を添加したものを用いることができる。
本発明の排気浄化装置の配置構成は、図1に示されるような構成に限られるものではなく、種々の変形が可能である。例えば、排気浄化装置を搭載する車両等によって排気管の構成は様々であり、以下の図8〜図14は、それぞれ形状が異なる排気管に設けられる排気浄化装置を示している。
このうち、図8は、上流側酸化触媒19が配置された上流側排気管部53とNOX触媒
13が配置された下流側排気管部55とが同一平面上にあり、NOX触媒13の入口部分にはテーパ管15が接続されて絞り部21が形成されている。また、絞り部21には還元剤拡散手段11が配置され、この還元剤拡散手段11に噴射方向を向けるようにして、屈曲部51aにおける還元剤拡散手段11に対向する箇所に還元剤噴射弁35が取り付けられている。
なお、図9(b)は、図9(a)のXX断面を矢印方向に見た断面図である。
この図10に示すようなガイド部材59を用いる場合に、ガイド部材59の排気ガス導入口59a及び還元剤噴射弁35の配置位置(方向)は、図11(a)〜(c)及び図12(a)〜(b)に示すように適宜選択することが可能であるが、排気ガスの流れ方向を考慮して、排気ガスが効率的に排気ガス導入口59aに流れ込むように設定することが好ましい。
このうち、図14(a)は、上流側酸化触媒19が配置された上流側排気管部53とNOX触媒13が配置された下流側排気管部55とが連通室73で連通されており、上流側排気管部53、下流側排気管部55、連通室73が同一平面上に置かれている。そして、連通室73内において、下流側排気管部55の入口側開口55aにはテーパ管15が接続されて絞り部21が形成されており、当該絞り部21に還元剤拡散手段11が配置されている。また、この還元剤拡散手段11に対向する箇所には、噴射方向を還元剤拡散手段11に向けるようにして、還元剤噴射弁35が取り付けられている。
また、上流側酸化触媒とNOX触媒との間に、排気ガス中のパーティキュレートを捕集するためのパーティキュレートフィルタを備えるか、あるいは、上流側酸化触媒の代わりに酸化触媒がコーティングされたパーティキュレートフィルタを備えるようにしてもよい。かかるパーティキュレートフィルタを備えることにより、排気ガス中のパーティキュレート及びNOXをともに除去することが可能になる。
Claims (6)
- 内燃機関の排気通路に配置されたNOX触媒と、前記NOX触媒の上流側の前記排気通路内に還元剤を噴射するための還元剤噴射部と、を備えた内燃機関の排気浄化装置であって、
前記還元剤噴射部による噴射位置の下流側、かつ、前記NOX触媒の上流側に、流路の断面積が前記排気通路及び前記NOX触媒の断面積よりも小さくされた絞り部を備えるとともに、前記絞り部に還元剤拡散手段を備えることを特徴とする内燃機関の排気浄化装置。 - 前記絞り部及び前記NOX触媒の間に、前記排気ガスを前記NOX触媒に導くガイド部を備えることを特徴とする請求の範囲の第1項に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 前記ガイド部は、断面積が下流側に向けて拡大する拡大管であることを特徴とする請求の範囲の第2項に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 前記排気通路は、前記NOX触媒の上流側で屈曲しており、前記ガイド部は、前記屈曲する箇所において前記NOX触媒の入口を覆うように取り付けられるとともに一部に排気ガス導入口を備え、前記排気ガス導入口から前記ガイド部に流入する排気ガスの流れ方向が前記屈曲する方向に沿って変化することを特徴とする請求の範囲の第2項に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 前記還元剤噴射部は、還元剤の噴射方向が前記還元剤拡散手段に向けられるように配置されることを特徴とする請求の範囲の第1項〜第4項のいずれか一項に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 前記還元剤噴射部は、噴射される還元剤が前記絞り部に到達するときの噴射範囲が、前記還元剤拡散手段の外側にはみ出さないように配置されることを特徴とする請求の範囲の第1項〜第5項のいずれか一項に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
