N is defined.
Description
The present invention relates to an imaging optical element used in an optical pickup system and an imaging system for optical recording and reproduction of an optical recording medium such as a compact disc (CD) and a digital versatile disc (DVD), and a design method thereof. .
The present invention also relates to an objective lens that collects light beams having different wavelengths on different surfaces. In particular, the present invention relates to a single objective lens for condensing different wavelengths for each disc on the surface of an optical disc such as a Blu-ray disc (BD), a digital versatile disc (DVD), and a compact disc (CD). The present invention also relates to an optical pickup optical system using the above objective lens.
FIG. 13 shows the configuration of an optical pickup system used for reproducing an optical recording medium such as a CD or DVD or recording on an optical recording medium. The light beams emitted from the
FIG. 14 shows an optical pickup system using one semiconductor
Optical systems for DVD and CD optical recording media are common, and various technologies have been developed for common use.
For example, the light beam passing through the first region of the central portion of the objective lens is condensed on the first optical recording medium and the second optical recording medium, and recorded or reproduced on the optical recording medium. A method has been proposed in which the two areas are mainly recorded or reproduced on the second optical recording medium, and the third area extending outside the second area is mainly used for recording or reproduction on the first optical recording medium. (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 11-96585).
However, in the above prior art method, the light beams that pass through the objective lens respectively correspond to optical recording media having different thicknesses depending on the areas through which they pass, and therefore, energy from the semiconductor laser cannot be efficiently guided to the optical recording medium. .
In addition, when recording or reproducing on an optical recording medium such as a DVD or CD, the optical recording medium must have a light-condensing capability that is almost diffraction limited. If the light is focused only by its shape and refractive power, it is difficult to correct spherical aberration. In particular, when emitting different wavelengths from a single laser unit using a semiconductor laser element array, the distance from the laser light source to the optical recording medium surface is the same, so the DVD and CD optical path length differences depending on the design can be used. In other words, the allowable value of the amount of wavefront aberration required for recording on or reproducing from the optical recording medium could not be satisfied.
The two wavelengths of a semiconductor laser used for recording or reproduction on optical recording media having different thicknesses such as DVD and CD are relatively close. Therefore, by forming a lens surface using a common diffraction order in a common area necessary for reproducing or recording a DVD or CD for an area having a diffractive portion, it is possible to record or reproduce on an optical recording medium. The required allowable value of wavefront aberration cannot be satisfied. For this reason, a method for performing optimization using different diffraction orders in a region having a diffractive part has been proposed (for example, supervised by the Japan Society of Applied Physics, Introduction to Diffractive Optical Elements, Optronics, May 20, 1997). 1st edition, 1st edition, pages 102-105).
Regarding the diffraction efficiency in a region having a diffraction part, the optimum depth of the diffraction grating is generally expressed by the following equation. Here, N is the number of steps, λ is the wavelength, and n is the refractive index.
The depth obtained by the above formula is the depth at which the first-order diffracted light is maximum with respect to the defined wavelength λ. Therefore, when the optimum depth is the diffraction grating depth, the first-order diffracted light occupies most of the light having a wavelength relatively close to the wavelength λ that passes through the region having the diffractive portion. The diffraction efficiency of the first-order diffracted light is improved for light of two wavelengths from a semiconductor laser for recording or reproduction on optical recording media having different thicknesses. That is, the diffraction efficiency of the 0th-order diffracted light is lowered.
FIG. 15 is a graph in which the diffraction efficiency in the blazed shape is calculated by taking the diffraction grating depth on the X axis and the diffraction efficiency on the Y axis. When the visible red wavelength of 660 nm is defined as the 0th-order diffracted light and the near-infrared wavelength of 780 nm is defined as the 1st-order diffracted light, the depth at which diffraction efficiency is obtained for both the 0th-order diffracted light and the 1st-order diffracted light is about 0.74 μm. Become. In this case, the diffraction efficiency at different wavelengths is about 40%.
Thus, a relief type diffraction grating that gives the above-described diffraction efficiency value in the diffraction region can also be used. However, market demands for DVDs using visible red semiconductor lasers are particularly high, and it is necessary to satisfy the optical characteristics required for optical pickups and to increase the energy efficiency of semiconductor lasers. There is. In other words, there is a great need for an objective lens and its design method that efficiently guides light beams of different wavelengths emitted from a semiconductor laser to an optical recording medium as 0th-order and 1st-order diffracted light.
As described above, in an objective lens used for recording or reproducing on optical recording media having different thicknesses such as DVDs and CDs, in order to reduce the aberration in condensing on the optical recording medium, 0th-order and first-order diffracted lights are used. It is necessary to use it. However, it has been difficult for the prior art to improve both the diffraction efficiency of 0th-order and 1st-order diffracted light. For this reason, there is a great need for improving both the diffraction efficiency of the 0th-order and 1st-order diffracted light.
An optical disk is used as a recording medium for storing a large amount of information. Among optical discs, compact discs (CD) and digital versatile discs (DVD) are widely used.
It is desirable to share the optical pickup system for CD and DVD for the purpose of saving space and cost. However, the condensing spot diameter required for reading and writing is about 1.4 to 1.5 μm for CD, and about 0.8 to 0.9 μm for DVD. The focused spot diameter is proportional to the wavelength used and inversely proportional to the numerical aperture on the image side of the optical system. For this reason, in the DVD, the diameter of the focused spot is reduced by reducing the wavelength and increasing the numerical aperture as compared with the CD. Further, in DVD, in order to suppress coma caused by disc tilt, the substrate thickness of 1.2 mm in CD is 0.6 mm. Therefore, in order to share the optical pickup system for CD and DVD, it is necessary to change the focal position and the numerical aperture by changing the substrate thickness.
For this reason, in the prior art, an optical pickup using a bifocal lens (for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-81666) for changing the focal position, or an aperture switching type optical pickup for changing the numerical aperture by liquid crystal (for example, JP-A-10-106020) has been proposed. However, even if the focal position is changed by changing the substrate thickness with the bifocal lens, the numerical aperture must be changed separately. Further, if a liquid crystal panel for switching the numerical aperture is provided separately, the number of parts increases and the part cost increases. Furthermore, it leads to a decrease in yield and an increase in man-hours in the production process.
As described above, no imaging optical element having a numerical aperture selection function has been proposed in the prior art.
An optical disk is used as a recording medium for storing a large amount of information. Among the optical discs, those widely used include a compact disc (CD) and a digital versatile disc (DVD). In addition, higher density Blu-ray discs (BD) have been developed.
The focused spot diameter that determines the storage density of the optical disk is proportional to the wavelength used and inversely proportional to the numerical aperture on the image side of the optical system. For this reason, the focused spot diameter is reduced by reducing the wavelength and increasing the numerical aperture. The wavelengths of CD, DVD and BD are about 785 nm, 655 nm and 405 nm, respectively, and the numerical apertures are about 0.45, 0.65 and 0.85, respectively.
It is desirable to share the optical pickup system for CD, DVD and BD for the purpose of saving space and cost.
In the prior art, an objective lens (for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2001-174697) or one objective which is a two-lens high NA objective lens and can cope with information recording media having different thicknesses without changing the lens interval. An optical head objective lens (for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-81566) with high light utilization efficiency that enables recording and reproduction of a plurality of types of optical information recording media with a lens has been proposed. However, since the former has two lenses, the number of parts is large and the cost is high. Furthermore, when the weight in the objective part increases, a load for driving the lens diameter by an actuator is applied, which hinders speeding up. The latter cannot be applied to an optical pickup system for BD.
Thus, in the prior art, a single objective lens for condensing different wavelengths for a disc including a BD has not been proposed.
λi=[N/(N・m+α)]・λ0・p
λi=[N/(N・m+α)]・λ0・p

The present invention has been made under the above circumstances. That is, the present invention relates to the 0th order and the 0th order of the diffractive portion of an objective lens used in an optical pickup system for optical recording and reproduction with different substrate thicknesses such as a compact disc (CD) and a digital versatile disc (DVD). An object of the present invention is to provide an objective lens that improves the diffraction efficiency of the first-order diffracted light and reduces the energy loss, and a design method thereof.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an imaging optical element having a numerical aperture switching function that does not require a separate shield such as a liquid crystal panel in an optical pickup system or the like. According to the present invention, the number of parts and part cost do not increase, and the yield in the production process is not reduced and the number of processes is not increased.
In addition, there is a great need for a single objective lens that focuses different wavelengths for each disc on the surface of an optical disc such as a Blu-ray Disc (BD), Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) and Compact Disc (CD). To do.
The imaging optical element according to the present invention includes, on at least one surface, a first light beam having a first wavelength, the first light beam having a first wavelength, and a first region including an optical axis and a second region having a diffraction portion around the first region. And a second light beam having a second wavelength different from the first wavelength. The shape of the diffractive portion in the second region is a staircase shape when the substrate is a plane, and the step amount of the staircase shape is such that the diffraction efficiency of the 0th-order diffracted light is at one wavelength of the first and second rays. It is determined based on the one wavelength so as to approach the peak of diffraction efficiency. Wavelength λ i = [N / (N · m + α)] · λ 0 where N is the number of steps, λ 0 is the wavelength of the one light beam, α is the diffraction order other than the 0th order, and m and p are integers.・ P
And the staircase such that the ratio of the difference between the first and second light beams to the other wavelength with respect to the other wavelength is equal to or less than a predetermined value determined from the degree of decrease from the peak value of diffraction efficiency. The number N is determined.
Therefore, in an imaging optical element having a staircase-shaped diffraction grating shape, diffraction efficiency can be improved by using two different wavelengths as 0th-order and αth-order diffracted light.
The objective lens according to the present invention collects the first light beam having the first wavelength and the second light beam having the second wavelength different from the first wavelength on the first and second surfaces, respectively. It is a lens. At least one lens surface includes a first region including the optical axis, a second region having a diffractive portion around the first region, and a third region around the second region. The first light beam passes through the first and second regions and then converges on the first surface, and the second light beam passes through the first, second and third regions and then condenses on the second surface. As described above, the lens surface shape in the second region is designed based on one of the optical paths of the first and second light rays, and the phase function defining the diffraction portion in the second region is that of the first and second light rays. Designed based on the other optical path.
According to the objective lens design method of the present invention, a first light beam having a first wavelength and a second light beam having a second wavelength different from the first wavelength are collected on the first and second surfaces, respectively. The objective lens to be illuminated is the target. The design method includes a step of defining, on at least one lens surface, a first region including an optical axis, a second region around the first region, and a third region around the second region, and a lens surface in the first region. Designing the shape. The design method further includes a step of designing the lens surface shape in the second region based on one of the optical paths of the first and second light rays, and a phase function that defines the shape of the diffraction part in the second region. And determining the second light beam based on the other optical path and designing the lens surface shape in the third region.
Thus, since the 1st field does not have a diffraction part, there is no energy loss by a diffraction part. In the second region, one of the first and second light beams has its optical path determined by refraction according to the lens surface shape, and the other of the first and second light beams has the lens surface shape and the phase function of the diffraction section. Since the optical path is determined according to the above, the aberration in the case of focusing on the first and second surfaces can be reduced. Therefore, energy loss and aberration can be reduced with respect to the two-wavelength light beams condensed on the first and second surfaces, respectively.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the shape of the diffractive portion in the second region is a step shape when the substrate is a plane, and the step amount of the step shape is based on the wavelengths of the first and second rays. Determined.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the wavelength of the light beam that defines the lens surface shape in the second region is λ 0 , the refractive index of the lens is n, the refractive index around the lens is n 0 , and the incident angle with respect to the diffractive portion. And θ is determined with reference to a value that is an integral multiple of λ 0 · cos θ / (n−n 0 ).
Therefore, the influence of the diffractive portion on the light beam that determines the lens surface shape in the second region as the 0th-order diffracted light is reduced, and the diffraction efficiency is improved.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the width of the staircase in the diffractive part is determined based on the phase function, the step amount, and the number of steps. Therefore, the influence of the diffractive portion on the other of the first and second light beams as the first-order diffracted light is increased, and the diffraction efficiency is improved.
In the objective lens according to one embodiment of the present invention, in the diffractive portion in the second region, the light beam that determines the lens surface shape in the second region passes mainly as 0th order diffracted light, and the light beam that determines the shape of the diffractive portion in the second region. Passes mainly as first-order or −1st-order diffracted light. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce the aberration when the light is condensed on the first and second surfaces, respectively.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the lens surface shapes of the first, second, and third regions are aspherical surfaces. Therefore, a design with a high degree of freedom can be performed in order to reduce the aberration.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided an optical pickup device for recording or reproducing information on first and second optical recording media having different thicknesses, the first light beam having the first wavelength and the first light beam. The second light beam having a second wavelength different from the first wavelength is used in an optical pickup device that uses the second light beam for the first and second optical recording media, respectively. The first surface is the surface of the first optical recording medium, and the second surface is the surface of the second optical recording medium. Therefore, it is possible to reduce energy loss and aberration with respect to the two-wavelength light beams condensed on the surfaces of the first and second optical recording media of the optical pickup device.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the first optical recording medium is a CD and the second optical recording medium is a DVD. Therefore, energy loss and aberration can be reduced with respect to light beams of two wavelengths that are condensed on the surfaces of the CD and DVD of the optical pickup device.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, NA1 satisfies NA1 ≦ 0.37, and NA1 satisfies the condition NA1 ≦ 0.37, where NA1 is a numerical aperture at which a light beam passing through the first region is focused on the optical recording medium. If NA2 is the numerical aperture focused on the medium, NA2 satisfies 0.3 ≦ NA2 ≦ 0.51, and NA3 is 0.3 when the numerical aperture passing through the third region and focused on the optical recording medium is NA3. 4 ≦ NA3 ≦ 0.67 is satisfied. As described above, by appropriately determining the numerical aperture, energy loss and aberration can be reduced with respect to the two-wavelength light beams condensed on the surfaces of the first and second optical recording media of the optical pickup device. Can do.
In the method for determining the diffraction grating shape according to the present invention, the stepped diffraction grating shape is determined based on the phase function while considering the diffraction efficiency with different two wavelengths as the 0th and 1st diffraction lights. Method of determining the diffraction grating pattern includes the steps of determining the step amount based on the wavelength lambda 0 of the one wavelength lambda 0 of the light 0 order diffracted light, the number of steps N, a positive integer as m, the first-order diffracted light any peak wavelength lambda 2, if the diffraction grating pattern has a right upward shape and λ 2 = N / (Nm + 1) ×
The computer program for determining the diffraction grating shape according to the present invention determines the step-shaped diffraction grating shape based on the phase function while considering the diffraction efficiency with different two wavelengths as the 0th and 1st diffraction lights. Computer program for determining the diffraction grating pattern allows a computer to execute the steps of: determining the step amount based on the wavelength lambda 0 of the one wavelength lambda 0 of the light 0 order diffracted light, the number of steps N, a positive integer as m Arbitrary peak wavelength λ 2 in the first-order diffracted light is set to λ 2 = N / (Nm + 1) × λ 0 when the diffraction grating shape has a right rising shape, and λ 2 when the diffraction grating shape has a left rising shape. 2 = N / (Nm−1) × λ 0 . The computer program for determining the diffraction grating shape further includes the step of determining the number of steps while manipulating m so that λ 2 approaches the wavelength of the other light that is the first-order diffracted light, and the step amount and phase. And a step for determining the width of the staircase based on the function.
Therefore, when determining the step-shaped diffraction grating shape based on the phase function, it is possible to improve the diffraction efficiency by using two different wavelengths as the 0th order and the 1st order diffracted light.
The imaging optical element according to the present invention includes, on at least one surface, a first light beam having a first wavelength, the first light beam having a first wavelength, and a first region including an optical axis and a second region having a diffraction portion around the first region. Passes through the first region and is focused on the imaging surface, but if it passes through the second region, it is not focused on the imaging surface, and a second light beam having a second wavelength different from the first wavelength is The light passes through the first region and the second region and is condensed on the imaging surface. Further, in the imaging optical element according to the present invention, the surface shape in the second region is designed based on one optical path of the first and second light beams, and the shape of the diffractive portion in the second region is the first and second. Is designed on the basis of the other light path.
A method for designing an imaging optical element according to the present invention comprises, on at least one surface, a first region including an optical axis and a second region having a diffractive portion around the first region, and having a first wavelength. The first light beam passes through the first region and is condensed on the imaging surface, but if it passes through the second region, the first light beam is not condensed on the imaging surface and has a second wavelength different from the first wavelength. The imaging optical element is designed so that the second light beam passes through the first region and the second region and is condensed on the imaging surface. Furthermore, the method for designing an imaging optical element according to the present invention includes a step of designing a surface shape in the second region based on one optical path of the first and second light rays, and a shape of the diffractive portion in the second region. And designing based on the other optical path of the first and second rays.
Therefore, the optical paths of the first and second light beams are separated according to the surface shape in the second region and the shape of the diffractive portion, and the second light beam is focused on the imaging surface without condensing the first light beam on the imaging surface. It can be condensed.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the shape of the diffractive portion in the second region is a step shape when the substrate is a plane, and the step amount of the step shape is such that the diffraction efficiency of the 0th-order diffracted light is the first and The second light beam is determined based on the one wavelength so as to approach a peak at the one wavelength.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the integral multiple of the one wavelength is λ 0 , the refractive index of the imaging optical element is n, the refractive index around the imaging optical element is n 0 , and the incident angle with respect to the diffraction part is As θ, the step amount of the diffractive portion is determined based on the value of λ 0 · cos θ / (n−n 0 ).
Accordingly, most of one of the first and second light beams passes through the diffracting part without being influenced by the diffracting part as zero-order diffracted light, and the optical path is determined by the surface shape of the second region. Also, very few of the one light beam passes through the diffracting portion as diffracted light of orders other than the 0th order and is affected by the diffracting portion.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the number of steps in the step shape is such that the diffraction efficiency of the 0th order diffracted light at the other wavelength approaches 0%, and the diffraction efficiency of the diffracted light of orders other than the 0th order becomes as large as possible. Thus, it is determined based on the first and second wavelengths.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, when the number of steps is N, the wavelength of the one light beam is λ 0 , the diffraction orders other than the 0th order are α, m, and p are integers, the wavelength λ i = [N / (N · m + α)] · λ 0 · p
The number of steps N is determined so that the ratio of the difference between the first and second light beams to the other wavelength is equal to or less than a predetermined value.
Therefore, most of the other light beam among the first and second light beams passes through the diffractive portion as diffracted light of an order other than the 0th order, and the optical path is determined by the shape of the diffractive portion. Also, very few of the other rays pass through the diffractive portion as zero-order diffracted light and are not affected by the diffractive portion.
The objective lens according to the present invention includes a diffraction grating on at least one surface, and collects light beams having different wavelengths on different surfaces. The first wavelength λ 1 and the second wavelength λ 2 are λ 1 <λ 2
When the above relationship is satisfied, the light beam of the first wavelength λ 1 is condensed on the first surface as the second-order diffracted light in the region where the light beams of the first wavelength λ 1 and the second wavelength λ 2 pass through. The phase function of the diffraction grating and the lens surface shape are determined so that the light beam having the second wavelength λ 2 as the first-order diffracted light is condensed on the second surface, and the grating depth of the diffraction grating is set to the first wavelength λ. The diffraction efficiency of the second-order diffracted light at 1 and the diffraction efficiency of the first-order diffracted light at the second wavelength λ 2 are determined to be larger than a predetermined value.
Therefore, the light beams having the first and second wavelengths are condensed on the first and second surfaces as second-order and first-order diffracted lights, respectively, and the diffraction efficiency is also larger than a predetermined value.
In the objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention, the second wavelength λ 3 is λ 2 <λ 3.
In the region where the light beams having the first wavelength λ 1 , the second wavelength λ 2, and the third wavelength λ 3 pass through, the light beam having the third wavelength λ 3 as the first-order diffracted light. The phase function of the diffraction grating and the lens surface shape are determined such that the diffraction efficiency of the first-order diffracted light at the third wavelength λ 3 is greater than a predetermined value. It is determined to be larger.
Therefore, the light beam having the third wavelength is condensed on the third surface as the primary light, and the diffraction efficiency becomes larger than a predetermined value.
In the objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention, the diffraction grating has a blazed shape. Therefore, processing is relatively easy.
In the objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention, n is the refractive index of the lens, and the
It depends on. In this case, the diffraction efficiency of the second-order diffracted light at the first wavelength and the diffraction efficiency of the first-order diffracted light at the second and third wavelengths are 70% or more, respectively.
In the objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention, at least one surface is divided into at least one band-like region surrounding the optical axis and a central region including the optical axis, and each region is defined by a separate surface.
In the objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention, a step in the optical axis direction is provided between the separate surfaces.
In the objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention, the separate surfaces are such that the z-axis coincides with the optical axis, i is the number of the surface counted from the center, Ri is the radius of curvature, Ki is the eccentricity, Ai4, Ai6, Ai8, Ai10 is an aspherical coefficient, and di is a formula representing a step on the optical axis of another surface based on the first surface.

In the objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention, the light beam having the first wavelength is collected by the image-side numerical aperture NA1, and the light beam having the second wavelength is collected by the image-side numerical aperture NA2.
NA1> NA2
In this case, the outermost part of the light flux of the second wavelength divides at least one surface into at least one band-like region surrounding the optical axis and a central region including the optical axis, and each region is a separate surface. Defined by.
In the objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention, the light beam having the first wavelength is collected by the image-side numerical aperture NA1, and the light beam having the second wavelength is collected by the image-side numerical aperture NA2.

In this case, in the region away from the optical axis through which only the light beam having the first wavelength passes, the diffraction grating is provided so that the light beam having the first wavelength λ 1 is condensed on the first surface. The phase function and lens surface shape are defined.
Accordingly, the degree of freedom of the lens surface shape is increased, and by adjusting various coefficients, it is possible to reduce the aberration when light beams having different wavelengths are condensed on different surfaces. When focusing on each surface, the wavefront aberration can be set to RMS 0.07 or less in wavelength units.
The objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention has a shape in which at least a part of the grating slope is steeper than the blazed slope.
Therefore, when light is incident on a portion where the slope of the lattice-shaped slope according to the present invention is steep, the incident angle becomes larger than that of the conventional technique (blazed shape), and transmitted light is not generated but totally reflected. The totally reflected light re-enters the adjacent grating shape, and is then coupled with another incident light by phase superposition, and is repeatedly reflected and finally transmitted light (diffracted at a very small angle with respect to the slope). Light) is emitted. As a result, the diffraction efficiency is improved. As described above, the diffraction efficiency is improved in a portion having a short grating period.
In the objective lens according to the embodiment of the present invention, when focusing on each surface, the wavefront aberration is designed to be RMS 0.07 or less in units of wavelength.
Therefore, it is possible to focus the light on each surface with high accuracy for each wavelength.
In the optical pickup optical system according to the embodiment of the present invention, the first wavelength is a wavelength for a Blu-ray disc, and the second wavelength is a wavelength for a digital versatile disc.
Therefore, since a single lens can be used for a Blu-ray disc and a digital versatile disc, a compact optical pickup optical system is provided. For this reason, high speed and low price are realized.
In the optical pickup optical system according to the embodiment of the present invention, when the third wavelength is handled, the third wavelength is a wavelength for a compact disk.

λ2=N/(Nm+1)×λ0
λ2=N/(Nm−1)×λ0
φ=C2×h2+C4×h4+C6×h6
l=λ0・cosθ/(n−n0) (1)
λ0=p・660nm (2)
λi=[N/(N・m+α)]・λ0 (3)
n=1.54
n0=1.0
θ=25度
λ0=3・660=1980
1=λ0・cosθ/(n−n0)
=1980・cos(π・25/180)/(1.54−1.0)
=3323
m=3
α=−1
λi=(2/5)・1980=792
λ0=2・660=1320
1=λ0・cosθ/(n−n0)
=1320・cos(π・25/180)/(1.54−1.0)
=2215
m=2
α=−1
λi=(3/5)・1320=792
φ=C2×h2+C4×h4+C6×h6
Φ(h)=Cxh
2π=Λ・(dφ/dr)
3879(rad/mm)<(dφ/dr)<15514(rad/mm)
8900(rad/mm)<(dφ/dr)<11070(rad/mm)

The numerical aperture for focusing on an optical recording medium having a small thickness (for example, a DVD having a thickness of 0.6 mm) is 0.6, and focusing on an optical recording medium having a large thickness (for example, a CD having a thickness of 1.2 mm). The numerical aperture is approximately 0.45. The diffraction grating portion is arranged on the optical recording medium side of the objective lens.
In the above embodiment, a collimator lens that collimates the semiconductor laser beam between the semiconductor laser and the objective lens that focuses the semiconductor laser beam on the optical recording medium is used. The present invention can also be applied to a conjugate lens excluding a collimator lens as shown.
FIG. 3 shows the shape of the lens surface on the optical recording medium side of the objective lens including the diffraction grating portion in one embodiment of the present invention. The shape on the side of the objective lens optical recording medium has a central region that does not have a diffractive portion, that is, a first region, a diffractive region that surrounds a central region that does not have a diffractive portion, that is, a second region, and a diffractive portion that further surrounds the diffractive region. It is divided into areas that do not have, that is, third areas. Each region has an aspheric shape, and the aspheric shape of each region is different.
The aspheric shape in each region is represented by the following formula,
FIG. 4 shows only the shape of the diffraction grating when the substrate of the diffraction area is a plane. The width of the staircase is made variable by matching the staircase-shaped diffraction grating to the phase function within one period.
The phase function that determines the shape of the diffraction grating is expressed by the following equation.
φ (γ) = C1γ2+ C2γ4+ C3γ6+ C4γ8+
When the phase function is set by the above equation, the ray tracing equation is as follows: where the x-direction cosine of the ray is l and the y-direction cosine is m,
It becomes. The phase function is determined by determining the coefficient of the equation by ray tracing so as to minimize the aberration of the ray for CD.
As described above, in the objective lens according to the present invention that performs recording or reproduction on optical recording media having different thicknesses such as a DVD and a CD, the aspherical shape is changed in the region where the spherical aberration increases, and diffraction by the diffraction grating is performed. Aberration correction is performed using the above effect.
The objective lens design procedure according to the present invention will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG. In step S5010 of FIG. 5, first, second, and third regions on the surface of the objective lens are determined. The first area is a DVD / CD shared area. Since the first region does not have a diffraction grating structure, no energy loss occurs. Therefore, it is desirable to make the first region as large as possible. For this reason, the first region is set as large as possible so that the aberration amount is recognized up to an allowable value while checking the aberration amount of the DVD and CD. NA1 is preferably NA1 ≦ 0.37, where NA1 is the numerical aperture at which the light beam passing through the first region is focused on the optical recording medium. Since the light beam for CD passes only through the first and second areas, the outer diameter of the second area is determined from the numerical aperture (NA) necessary for recording and reproduction with respect to the CD. Depending on the CD specification, NA is in the range of 0.3-0.51. The outer diameter of the third region is determined from the numerical aperture (NA) necessary for recording and reproduction with respect to the DVD. Depending on the DVD specifications, NA is in the range of 0.4-0.67.
In step S5020, the lens surface shape in the first region is designed. Since the first area is a DVD and CD shared area, the lens surface shape is determined in consideration of the optical paths and aberrations of both the DVD light beam and the CD light beam.
In step S5030, the lens surface shape in the second region is designed. In the present embodiment, the lens surface shape in the second region is determined in consideration of the optical path and aberration of only the DVD light beam.
In step S5040, the shape of the diffraction part in the second region is designed. The shape design of the diffraction part will be described later in detail.
In step S5050, the lens surface shape in the third region is designed. Since the third region is a DVD-dedicated region, the lens surface shape in the third region is determined in consideration of the optical path and aberration of only the DVD light beam.
The shape design of the diffractive portion in the second region of the objective lens according to the present invention will be described based on the flowchart of FIG. Here, the wavelength of the DVD light beam is, for example, 655 nm, and the wavelength of the CD light beam is, for example, 790 nm. In step S6010, an optical path difference function or a phase function is determined so as to correct the optical path of the CD light beam. In the present embodiment, since the lens surface shape in the second region is determined in consideration of the optical path and aberration of only the DVD light beam, the optical path of the CD light beam is corrected by the phase function.
In step S6020, assuming that the DVD light beam is zero-order diffracted light, the step amount (per step) of the staircase-shaped grating portion is obtained from the wavelength of the DVD light beam (eg, 655 nm). Since the light beam for DVD is the 0th order diffracted light, the level difference is λ0, N is the refractive index of the lens, and n is the refractive index around the lens.0As λ0/ (N−n0). In this embodiment, n = 1.5407, n0= 1.
In step S6030, the number of steps is N, and a positive integer is m.2If the diffraction grating shape has a shape that rises to the right,
λ2= N / (Nm + 1) × λ0
When the diffraction grating shape has a shape that rises to the left
λ2= N / (Nm−1) × λ0
Asking. The above formula is obtained empirically by data analysis and data analysis.
In the present embodiment, as shown in FIG. 4, the diffraction grating shape has a shape that rises to the left. Therefore, the following equation is used. The wavelength of the 0th order diffracted light is λ0, N is the refractive index of the lens, and n is the refractive index around the lens.0As λ0/ (N−n0), A positive integer is m = 1, and N = 5, 6, 7, and 8 are shown in the first to fourth rows of the table shown in FIG. The peak wavelengths (unit: nm) of the first-order diffracted light are 818.75, 786, 764.17, and 748.57, respectively. The wavelength of the 0th order diffracted light is λ0, N is the refractive index of the lens, and n is the refractive index around the lens.0As λ0/ (N−n0), A positive integer m = 1, and N = 3, 4, 5, 6 are shown in the fifth to eighth lines of FIG. The peak wavelengths (unit: nm) of the first-order diffracted light are 786, 748.57, 727.78, and 714.55, respectively.
In step S6040, it is determined whether the peak wavelength λc obtained as described above is sufficiently close to the wavelength λk (for example, 790 nm) of the other CD light beam. Specifically, the following formula is calculated as the first-order diffracted light peak error.
| (Λk−λc) / λk |
Of the first to eighth rows of the table shown in FIG. 7, the first-order diffracted light peak errors in the second and fifth rows are small (for example, 1% or less), so the number of steps is six. (0th order diffracted light wavelength is λ0, N is the refractive index of the lens, and n is the refractive index around the lens.0The step amount is λ0/ (N−n0)) Or 3 steps (0th order diffracted light wavelength is λ0, N is the refractive index of the lens, and n is the refractive index around the lens.0The step amount is λ0/ (N−n0))). As described above, the amount of steps and the number of steps in the staircase shape are determined based on the wavelengths of the light beam for CD and the light beam for DVD.
The allowable range of the peak error is determined from the relationship between the wavelength near the peak of diffraction efficiency and the diffraction efficiency. In general, when about 20% reduction in diffraction efficiency from the peak value is allowed, the allowable range of the peak error is 10 to 15% in the case of a two-stage diffraction grating and 4 in the case of a three-stage diffraction grating. In the case of 4 to 4% diffraction grating, the range is 2 to 7%. In the case of 5 stage diffraction grating, the range is 2 to 5%.
In FIG. 7, the optimum tilt amount (t1) indicates the tilt amount with respect to the diffraction grating bus as shown in FIG.
In step S6050, as shown in FIG. 4, the width of the staircase is determined from the step amount based on the shape of the phase function. That is, the width of the staircase is made variable by matching the staircase-shaped diffraction grating to the phase function within one period.
In step S6060, the diffraction grating depth is recalculated based on the diffraction grating shape obtained by the above procedure in consideration of the angle of the light beam incident on the diffraction part. Specifically, a new step amount corresponding to the incident angle is obtained on the basis of a value obtained by multiplying the step amount obtained above by cos θ, where the incident angle is θ. The diffraction grating depth is obtained by multiplying the step amount by (number of steps-1).
As described above, in this embodiment, the lens surface shape is obtained based on the optical path and aberration of the DVD light beam in the second region, and the optical path and aberration of the CD light beam are corrected by the phase function. As another embodiment, the lens surface shape may be obtained based on the optical path and aberration of the CD light beam in the second region, and the optical path and aberration of the DVD light beam may be corrected by a phase function.
FIG. 8 is a graph showing the result of calculating the diffraction efficiency of the diffraction grating shape obtained by the design method of this embodiment by vector calculation. In this graph, the wavelength is on the X-axis and the diffraction efficiency is on the Y-axis. The diffraction efficiency of the 0th-order diffracted light at the wavelength of 655 nm of the DVD light beam and the diffraction efficiency of the −1st-order diffracted light at the wavelength of 790 nm of the DVD light beam are about 83% and about 60%, respectively, and a high diffraction efficiency is obtained. I understand that. In the present embodiment, the angle of light incident on the diffractive portion is 18 degrees, the number of diffraction grating steps is five, and the diffraction grating depth is 4.5 μm. As described above, the number of steps is optimal from the point of the peak wavelength, but the number of steps is set to 5 in consideration of the overall diffraction efficiency including other orders and workability.
(Numerical example 1)
9 and 10 show numerical examples of the objective lens in the present embodiment. In one embodiment shown here, a collimator lens for converting a light beam from a semiconductor laser into parallel light is disposed between the semiconductor laser and an objective (Pick Up) lens. In FIG. 9, APL indicates a cyclic olefin copolymer, and PC indicates polycarbonate. The paraxial axis R of the aspherical coefficient in FIG. 10 indicates the
FIG. 11 shows a comparison between the spherical aberration of one embodiment of the present invention and the spherical aberration of an objective lens composed only of an aspheric surface having no diffraction region under the same conditions. According to the comparison result of FIG. 11, the spherical aberration of one embodiment of the present invention is very small, and it shows sufficient optical characteristics for recording on or reproducing from an optical recording medium. On the other hand, when an objective lens composed only of an aspheric surface is used, it can be seen that the standard value for recording or reproducing on an optical recording medium is exceeded.
FIG. 12 shows a graph of spherical aberration in one embodiment of the present invention. The upper two figures show spherical aberration for a thin optical recording medium (DVD) and spherical aberration for a thick optical recording medium (CD). The vertical axis represents the lens height (pupil radius), and the horizontal axis represents the aberration at the corresponding lens height. The lower diagram shows spherical aberration when a numerical aperture necessary for recording and reproduction on a thin optical recording medium is given to a thick optical recording medium (CD). The vertical axis represents the numerical aperture, and the horizontal axis represents the aberration at the corresponding numerical aperture. The spherical aberration of light passing through the outside of the lens area corresponding to the numerical aperture required for a thick optical recording medium (CD) has increased sharply, resulting in flare light on the thick optical recording medium. , Indicating that light is not condensed.
The objective lens in one embodiment of the present invention uses a cyclic olefin copolymer as a material, but can be manufactured by other plastic materials.
As another embodiment of the present invention, an objective lens in an optical pickup system for CD and DVD will be described below. The first light beam is a laser beam having a wavelength of 785 nm for CD, and the second light beam is a laser beam having a wavelength of 660 nm for DVD.
A method for designing an objective lens as an imaging optical element according to the present invention will be described with reference to the flowcharts of FIGS.
In step S1010 of FIG. 17, the lens surface shapes in the first region and the second region are designed in consideration of the optical paths of the first and second light rays. Note that the lens surface shape of the second region is designed so as to be focused on the imaging surface in consideration of only the optical path of the second light beam. Surface shapes other than the surfaces having the first and second regions are also designed at the same time. Here, the first region includes the optical axis, and is, for example, within a certain distance from the optical axis, and is a region for condensing the first and second light beams on the imaging surface. The size of the first region is determined from the objective lens image side numerical aperture for CD. The numerical aperture on the objective lens image side for CD is, for example, 0.457. Further, the second region exists around the first region, for example, is within a certain distance from the optical axis, and does not collect the first light beam on the imaging surface, but collects the second light beam on the imaging surface. This is the area to be illuminated. The size of the second region is determined from the objective lens image side numerical aperture for DVD. The objective lens image side numerical aperture for DVD is, for example, 0.652.
In step S1020 of FIG. 17, the shape of the diffractive portion in the second region is designed so that the first light beam, that is, the laser beam for CD is not condensed on the imaging surface. Specifically, when passing through the second region, most of the second light beam, that is, the laser beam for DVD passes through the diffracting portion as zero-order diffracted light, and most of the first light beam is first order or higher or − It is designed so as to pass through the diffraction section as diffracted light of the first order or less. Most of the second light beam that has passed through the diffracting portion as the 0th-order diffracted light is focused on the imaging surface because the optical path is determined by the lens surface shape. Most of the first light beam that has passed through the diffraction section as diffracted light of the first order or higher or the first order or lower is not condensed on the imaging surface. Details of the shape design of the diffractive portion will be described later in detail based on the flowchart of FIG.
In the above description, the lens surface shape in the second region is designed so that the second light beam, ie, the laser beam for DVD, is focused on the imaging surface, and the first light beam, ie, the laser beam for CD, is formed on the imaging surface. The shape of the diffractive portion in the second region is designed so as not to be focused on the lens, but the lens surface shape in the second region is designed so that the first light beam, that is, the laser beam for CD, is not focused on the imaging surface. The shape of the diffractive portion may be designed so that the second light beam, that is, the laser beam for DVD is condensed on the imaging surface.
Details of the shape design of the diffraction part will be described below based on the flowchart of FIG. The shape of the diffractive portion in the second region is a step shape when the substrate is a plane.
In step S2010 of FIG. 18, a phase function that determines the shape of the diffractive portion is designed so that the first light beam, that is, the laser beam for CD is not condensed on the imaging surface. In the XYZ orthogonal coordinate system, when the optical axis is the Z axis, the phase function is expressed by the following equation, for example.
φ = C2 × h2+ C4 × h4+ C6 × h6
Here, h is a distance from the Z axis in a plane perpendicular to the Z axis,
It is. The ray tracing equation when the phase function is expressed by the above equation is expressed by the following equation where l is the cosine of the ray in the x direction and m is the cosine of the y direction.
The coefficients in the above phase function equation are determined by ray tracing so as not to collect the first ray on the imaging plane.
The form of the phase function is not limited to the above formula as will be shown later as a numerical example.
Next, in step S2020, the stepped step amount is determined so that the diffraction efficiency of the 0th-order diffracted light approaches the peak at the wavelength of the second light beam, that is, the DVD laser beam. Specifically, assuming that the step amount (per step) is l, l is determined based on the following equation.
l = λ0・ Cos θ / (n−n0(1)
Here, since the second light beam, that is, the laser beam for DVD is the 0th order diffracted light, p is an integer.
λ0= P.660nm (2)
It is. Θ is the incident angle with respect to the diffraction part, n is the refractive index of the objective lens, and n0Is the refractive index around the objective lens.
Next, in step S2030, the wavelength λ obtained from the following equation:iThe number of steps N is determined so that the difference between the first wavelength, that is, the wavelength of the laser beam for CD, is equal to or less than a predetermined value.
λi= [N / (N · m + α)] · λ0 (3)
Here, m is an arbitrary integer, and α is a diffraction order other than the 0th order. The above equation (3) is an equation based on an empirical rule for obtaining the peak wavelength of the diffraction order α other than the zeroth order. λiBecomes closer to the first wavelength, the peak wavelength of the diffraction order α approaches the first wavelength. Therefore, the energy of the first light beam increases with the diffracted light of the diffraction order α, and approaches 0 with the 0th-order diffracted light.
Next, in step S2040, the width of the stairs is determined based on the phase function, the amount of steps, and the number of steps.
Next, in step S2050, the diffraction efficiency by the diffraction unit is obtained by vector calculation.
In step S2060, it is determined whether the diffraction efficiency is within a desired range. If it is within the desired range, the process ends. If it is not within the desired range, steps S2020 to S2050 are repeated while adjusting various parameters.
Here, steps S2020 and S2030 will be described based on the following numerical examples.
n = 1.54
n0= 1.0
θ = 25 degrees
Here, when p = 3, from the above equation (2)
λ0= 3.660 = 1980
It becomes.
Substituting this value into equation (1),
1 = λ0・ Cos θ / (n−n0)
= 1980 · cos (π · 25/180) / (1.54-1.0)
= 3323
In this way, the step amount of 3.323 μm per step is obtained.
λ0Is substituted into equation (3), and
m = 3
α = -1
Then, when N = 2,
λi= (2/5) · 1980 = 792
It becomes. This value is very close to the first wavelength, that is, the wavelength 785 nm of the laser beam for CD. Since the difference is 7 nm, the ratio (peak error) to the first wavelength is 0.89%. Therefore, the −1st order diffracted light approaches the peak near the first wavelength. Since the energy of the first light beam increases with the −1st order diffracted light, it is expected to approach 0 with the 0th order diffracted light. That is, the 0th-order diffracted light approaches the peak at the second wavelength and approaches 0 at the first wavelength. In this way, the number of steps N = 2 is obtained. For example, the number of steps may be determined so that the ratio (peak error) is 5% or less.
The allowable range of the peak error is determined from the relationship between the wavelength near the peak of diffraction efficiency and the diffraction efficiency.
When p = 2, from the above equation (2)
λ0= 2 · 660 = 1320
It becomes.
Substituting this value into equation (1),
1 = λ0・ Cos θ / (n−n0)
= 1320 · cos (π · 25/180) / (1.54-1.0)
= 2215
In this way, a step amount of 2.215 μm per step is obtained.
λ0Is substituted into equation (3), and
m = 2
α = -1
Then, when N = 3,
λi= (3/5) .1320 = 792
In this way, the number of steps N = 3 is obtained. For example, the number of steps may be determined so that the ratio (peak error) is 5% or less.
The allowable range of the peak error is determined from the relationship between the wavelength near the peak of diffraction efficiency and the diffraction efficiency.
FIG. 19 and FIG. 20 show the case where the grating shape of the diffraction part obtained by the above procedure is combined with the aspherical shape of the lens surface and the case where it is used alone. FIG. 20 shows the case where the number of steps N = 2, and FIG. 20 shows the case where the number of steps N = 3.
(Numerical example 2)
A numerical example of this embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. The number of steps N = 2. The optical arrangement is shown in Table 1 below.
A laser beam from a semiconductor laser (LD) light source is a collimated second beam when using a DVD. When the CD is used, the objective lens (first lens in Table 1) having a distance of 48.6 mm from the aperture surface is used. If necessary, a collimating lens is provided in front of the objective lens.
The distance between the center planes of the objective lens is 2.2 mm. The distance from the image side surface of the objective lens to the substrate is 0.961 mm for DVD and 1.161 mm for CD. The thickness of the substrate is 0.6 mm for DVD and 1.2 mm for CD. The image side numerical aperture (NA) of the objective lens is 0.652 for DVD and 0.457 for CD. The focal length of the objective lens is 2.74 for DVD and 2.75 for CD.
A surface on the light source side of the objective lens (a stop surface in Table 1) is a composite aspherical surface. The compound aspherical surface has three surfaces j = 1, 2, and 3 separated by two coaxial circles centered on the optical axis. The three planes are defined by the following formula and Table 2 below. In the following equation, h is
Defined by
Here, kj is a constant indicating the shape of the curved surface, Rj is the central curvature radius, and A4j to A10j are correction coefficients. Further, dj is a shift amount of the surface along the Z axis.
The innermost surface radius of the second surface in Table 2 is set as large as possible so that the aberration falls within a predetermined range while checking the aberration state of the DVD and CD. The innermost surface radius of the third surface is determined by the image-side numerical aperture of the CD.
The image-side surfaces (two surfaces in Table 1) of the objective lens are designated as special DOE surfaces having a diffractive portion. The aspherical surface of this surface is defined by the following equation and Table 3.
Here, k is a constant indicating the shape of the curved surface, R is the central radius of curvature, and A4 to A10 are correction coefficients.
The phase function of the diffraction part is defined by the following formula and Table 4.
φ = C2 × h2+ C4 × h4+ C6 × h6
Here, C2, C4, and C6 are coefficients.
In Table 4, the inner diameter of the phase function refers to the first region including the optical axis on the image-side surface of the objective lens, and a diffractive portion provided around the first region, and thus the shape is determined by the phase function. This is the distance between the boundary with the second region and the optical axis. The outer edge of the second region whose shape is determined by the phase function is determined by the effective diameter of the image side surface of the objective lens.
The application results of the above numerical examples are shown in FIGS. 21 is an optical path diagram of a DVD light beam (second light beam). The middle part of FIG. 21 is an optical path diagram in the case where the light beam for CD (first light beam) is −1st order diffracted light. The lower part of FIG. 21 is an optical path diagram when the light beam for CD (first light beam) is first-order diffracted light. According to the optical path diagram, in the CD optical system, light rays outside the required image-side numerical aperture flare on the image plane due to the wavelength selective diffraction grating, and in the DVD optical system, the light beams are imaged at the specified numerical aperture. Condensed at one point on the surface. Thus, it can be seen that the image-side numerical aperture is controlled by the wavelength selective diffraction grating.
FIG. 22 shows a spherical aberration diagram. In the spherical aberration diagram, the horizontal axis indicates the distance in the optical axis direction, the vertical axis indicates the height at which the light beam enters the entrance pupil, and the position where the light beam intersects the optical axis is plotted. The upper part of FIG. 22 is a case of DVD light (second light), the middle part of FIG. 22 is a case where CD light (first light) is −1st order diffracted light, and the lower part of FIG. This is a case where the light beam (first light beam) is the first-order diffracted light. In the DVD optical system, spherical aberration is substantially optimized, and the power of the system is increased. In the CD optical system, the spherical aberration outside the necessary image-side numerical aperture is large both when the first-order light is used in the wavelength selective diffraction grating and when the −1st order is used. It can be seen that only rays corresponding to the required image-side numerical aperture are captured.
FIG. 23 shows a point image intensity distribution (PSF). The upper part of FIG. 23 is the case of the DVD light (second light), the middle part of FIG. 23 is the case where the CD light (first light) is the −1st order diffracted light, and the lower part of FIG. This is a case where the light beam (first light beam) is the first-order diffracted light. Since aberrations are suppressed at the required image-side numerical aperture for both DVD and CD, a point image intensity distribution (PSF) that satisfies recording / reproduction for DVD and CD is formed. Condensed spot diameters and side lobe values are shown in Table 5. The side lobe value (%) is the ratio of the side lobe height to the main beam height in the PSF diagram. In Table 5, the condensing spot diameter without the diffraction grating is 1.14, which is smaller than the condensing spot diameter of the CD. On the other hand, the condensing spot diameter in the case where there is a diffraction grating is 1.44, which is the specification of the condensing spot diameter of the CD.
Table 6 shows the diffraction efficiencies in the 0th order and ± 1st order of the light beams having the first wavelength 785 (nm) and the second wavelength 660 (nm) in the case of the number of steps N = 2 and 3. For example, when the number of steps N = 2, the first wavelength has a diffraction efficiency of 37% for the first-order and −1st-order diffracted light, and the diffraction efficiency of the 0th-order diffracted light is 0%. In the second wavelength, the diffraction efficiency of the first-order and −1st-order diffracted light is 0%, and the diffraction efficiency of the 0th-order diffracted light is 80%. Thus, it can be seen from the numerical values in Table 6 that the order is appropriately switched between the first and second wavelengths.
(Numerical Example 3)
As another numerical example, when the phase function of the diffractive part is defined by the following equation and Table 7, the grating pitch of the diffractive part is equally spaced.
Φ (h) = Cxh
Here, C is a coefficient.
FIG. 24 shows the case where the grating shape of the diffractive portion is combined with the aspherical shape of the lens surface and the case where it is used alone. In addition, FIG. 25 shows application results when the data in Tables 1 to 3 are used in the above case where the grating pitches of the diffractive portions are equally spaced. The upper part of FIG. 25 is an optical path diagram in the case where the light beam for CD (first light beam) is −1st order diffracted light. The lower part of FIG. 25 is an optical path diagram when the light beam for CD (first light beam) is the first-order diffracted light. From the optical path diagram, in the CD optical system, light rays outside the required image side numerical aperture are flare on the image plane by the wavelength selective diffraction grating, and the image side numerical aperture by the wavelength selective diffraction grating as in the previous numerical examples. It can be seen that control is performed.
The objective lens in one embodiment of the present invention uses a cyclic olefin copolymer as a material, but can be manufactured by other plastic materials.
As a further embodiment of the present invention, a single objective lens shared for BD, DVD and CD will be described. The first wavelength ray is a BD ray (wavelength 405 nm), the second wavelength ray is a DVD ray (
An objective lens according to still another embodiment of the present invention includes a diffraction grating on at least one surface, and the light beam having the first wavelength passes through the diffraction grating as the second-order diffracted light, and the light beams having the second and third wavelengths. Are designed to pass through the diffraction grating as first-order diffracted light.
The diffraction grating is a blazed grating. The reason why the blazed grating is used is as follows. The staircase shape with both spherical and aspherical power is very difficult to process, and it is almost impossible to install dozens of rings.
The

FIG. 26 shows diffraction efficiency with respect to the wavelengths of the first-order and second-order diffracted light when the grating depth is optimized (maximum diffraction efficiency) with respect to the second-order diffracted light having the first wavelength (405 nm for BD). Indicates. In FIG. 26, the solid line indicates the diffraction efficiency of the second-order diffracted light, and the one-dot chain line indicates the diffraction efficiency of the first-order diffracted light. The diffraction efficiency of the first-order diffracted light is close to 1 and is almost optimized at the second wavelength (655 nm for DVD) and the third wavelength (785 nm for CD). Therefore, by optimizing the diffraction efficiency with respect to the first wavelength with the first wavelength as the second-order diffracted light, the diffraction efficiency is substantially optimized also with respect to the second and third wavelengths. The
The objective lens design method of the present invention will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG.
In step S1010 of FIG. 27, the entrance pupil diameter is set and the outermost ray angle is set as a constraint condition so as to realize the image-side numerical aperture for the light ray of each wavelength.
In step S1020, the lens surface shape and the phase function of the diffraction grating are determined so as to satisfy the constraint condition of the outermost ray angle.
In step S1030, the aberration on the image plane of each wavelength is calculated.
In step S1040, it is determined whether the aberration is within an allowable range. For example, if the wavefront aberration is RMS 0.07 or less with the wavelength as a unit, it is within the allowable range. RMS is a value obtained by calculating an average value of squares of wavefront aberrations over the entire reference wavefront and taking the square root thereof. If it is within the allowable range, the process ends. If it is not within the allowable range, the process proceeds to step S1050.
In step S1050, the correction amount of the lens surface shape and the phase difference function of the diffraction grating is determined, and the process returns to step S1020.
A numerical example of the present invention will be described below based on the drawings and tables.
(Numerical example 4)
28 to 30 show optical path diagrams of BD, DVD, and CD of the objective lens of Numerical Example 4, respectively. Table 9 shows lens data of Numerical Example 4. As shown in FIGS. 28 and 29, the BD and DVD light beams are incident on the objective lens as parallel light. The light beam for CD is incident on the objective lens as a light beam having a spread angle from a light source at a distance of 21 mm from the stop surface. That is, the CD light source and the image constitute a finite conjugate system. A blazed diffraction grating is provided on the stop surface (incident side surface) of the lens. The exit side surface of the lens is composed of a special surface which is divided into at least one band-like region surrounding the optical axis and a central region including the optical axis, and each region is defined by a separate surface.
Table 10 shows the specifications of the surface on the incident surface side.
The lens shape of the incident side surface is represented by the following aspherical expression.
Here, the z axis coincides with the optical axis, R represents a radius of curvature, K represents an eccentricity, and A4, A6, A8, and A10 represent aspherical coefficients. Here, d is zero. Further, h is a distance from the optical axis and is expressed by the following equation.
The phase function that determines the grating interval of the diffraction grating on the incident surface is expressed by the following equation.
Here, C2, C4, C6, C8, C10, and C12 represent phase function coefficients. R is expressed by the following equation.
Table 11 shows the specifications of the emission side surface. The exit side surface is divided into two strip regions surrounding the optical axis and a central region including the optical axis, each region being defined by a separate surface. The surface of the central region including the optical axis is the first surface, the surface of the region surrounding the periphery is the second surface, and the surface of the region surrounding the region of the second surface is the third surface.
The shapes of the first to third surfaces are represented by the following aspheric expression.
Here, the z axis coincides with the optical axis, i represents the surface number counted from the center, Ri represents the radius of curvature, Ki represents the eccentricity, and Ai4, Ai6, Ai8, and Ai10 represent the aspherical coefficients. di represents the maximum movement (level difference) on the optical axis of the other surface with respect to the first surface. The amount of movement in the traveling direction of light is positive. H is the same as in the case of the formula (1).
Here, the boundary radius and the step amount are determined based on the following concept. In the design method of FIG. 27, the boundary radius is set so that the optical path difference (that is, wavefront aberration) of the light bundles condensed on the image plane is minimized. The level difference is set so that the dispersion value of the optical path difference of the light beam condensed on the image plane is minimized, that is, the shape is continuous numerically and differentially (inclined) in the boundary region.
Point image intensity distributions according to Numerical Example 4 are shown in FIGS.
(Numerical example 5)
34 and 35 show optical path diagrams of the BD and DVD of the objective lens of Numerical Example 5, respectively. Table 12 shows lens data of Numerical Example 5. As shown in FIGS. 34 and 35, the BD and DVD light beams are incident on the objective lens as parallel light. The diaphragm surface (incident side surface) of the lens is divided into an inner shared area for DVD and BD and an outer dedicated area for BD, and has different surface shapes, and each has a different diffraction grating. Yes. The exit side surface of the lens is composed of a special surface which is divided into at least one band-like region surrounding the optical axis and a central region including the optical axis, and each region is defined by a separate surface.
Table 13 shows the specifications of the incident side surface. The lens shape of the incident side surface is represented by the above aspherical formula (1). However, a surface perpendicular to the optical axis is formed outside the radius of 1.45 mm centered on the optical axis. The part (center area) represented by the aspherical expression is a shared area for DVD and BD, and the part (band-like area) that forms a plane perpendicular to the optical axis is a dedicated area for BD. That is, the boundary radius is determined from the DVD entrance pupil diameter of 2.9 mm.
The phase function that determines the grating interval of the diffraction grating on the incident surface is expressed by the above equation (2). Table 13 shows the phase function of the shared area (center area) for DVD and BD and the phase function of the dedicated area for BD (band-like area).
Table 14 shows the specifications of the emission side surface. The exit side surface is divided into a strip region surrounding the optical axis and a central region including the optical axis, each region being defined by a separate surface. The surface of the central region including the optical axis is the first surface, and the surface of the region surrounding the periphery is the second surface. The shapes of the first and second surfaces are represented by the above equation (3).
Here, the boundary radius and the step amount are determined based on the following concept. The boundary radius is determined from the optical path of the outermost ray of the DVD. The value of the level difference is determined so as to minimize the optical path difference between the light beam that passes through the outermost side of the central region and the light beam that passes through the innermost side of the band-like region.
The point image intensity distribution according to Numerical Example 5 is shown in FIGS.
In Numerical Example 5, a diffraction grating (diffractive optical element) having a special shape described below is used instead of the blazed grating as the diffraction grating for the BD-dedicated region on the incident side surface.
The diffractive optical element of the present invention has at least a part of the grating period Λ.
A diffraction optical element having a grating shape on the substrate in a range of the above-mentioned range, and in order to increase diffraction efficiency in the periodic part, a part where the grating slope is steeper than a saw-shaped slope is It is comprised so that it may prepare for at least one part. When light is incident on a portion where the slope of the grid-shaped slope according to the present invention is steep, the incident angle becomes larger than that of the conventional technique (blazed shape or saw-shaped shape), and transmitted light is not generated but totally reflected.
In general, when the phase function of the diffraction grating is φ, the distance from the optical axis is r, and the grating period is Λ,
2π = Λ · (dφ / dr)
The relationship is established. This formula
λ <Λ <4λ
Substituting into
(2π / 4λ) <(dφ / dr) <(2π / λ)
Where λ is the first wavelength λ1Substituting = 405 nm,
3879 (rad / mm) <(dφ / dr) <15514 (rad / mm)
It becomes.
On the other hand, from the phase function of the band-like region (peripheral region) in Numerical Example 5, assuming that 1.45 mm <r <1.9 mm as the range of the band-like region,
8900 (rad / mm) <(dφ / dr) <11070 (rad / mm)
It becomes. Therefore, the condition of λ <Λ <4λ is satisfied.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the steep portion is configured such that incident light undergoes total reflection. Therefore, the coupling with another incident light by phase superposition is performed reliably, and the diffraction efficiency is improved.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the line representing the grid slope in the grid cross section makes at least one inflection point. Therefore, there is a portion where the grid slope is steeper than the saw-type slope.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, a line representing a lattice slope in a lattice section is composed of two or more curves having different curvatures. Therefore, there is a portion where the grid slope is steeper than the saw-type slope.
According to one embodiment of the invention, n is the refractive index of the substrate, n0Is the refractive index of the medium on the outgoing light side, and the height of the grating in the periodic part is
In this range, the diffraction efficiency is set to be increased. Therefore, the grating height is optimized in consideration of the phase change that is ongoing in the grating structure.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, a central portion having a period greater than 4λ;
A diffractive optical lens comprising a peripheral portion having a period in the range of. Therefore, the light collection intensity can be improved by increasing the diffraction efficiency of the portion where the grating period of the diffractive optical lens is short, and as a result, the numerical aperture can be increased. Further, by using a diffractive optical element having higher performance than the conventional one as a part of an optical device such as a reading optical system, the performance of the device can be improved.
In Numerical Example 5, it is the above-mentioned peripheral edge that is used as a diffraction grating for the BD-dedicated region (band-like region in Table 6) on the incident side surface.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, incident light is transmitted to the substrate. That is, a transmission type diffractive optical element is obtained.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, it corresponds to incident light from above the grating portion. That is, a diffractive optical element corresponding to incident light from above the grating is obtained.
Hereinafter, a diffractive optical lens will be described as an example of the diffractive optical element, but the present invention is not limited to the diffractive optical lens.
A method for designing a diffractive optical element according to the present invention will be described with reference to the flowcharts of FIGS.
In step S3010 of FIG. 38, initial setting is performed. The initial setting targets are wavelength, refractive index, element size, target numerical aperture, diffraction efficiency, and the like. In step S3020, a phase function is calculated. In step S3030, the lattice height of the element is calculated. In step S3040, the grating shape of the element is determined from the phase function.
In step S3050, it is determined to which region each lattice belongs. The grating belongs to
In Numerical Example 5, the above-described
For a periodic grating belonging to
In step S3080, the numerical aperture and diffraction efficiency are calculated, and in step S3090, the calculation result is output.
Next, a method for optimizing the lattice shape of the lattice in the region 2 (step S3060 in FIG. 38) will be described with reference to FIG.
In step S4010 of FIG. 39, each lattice shape is finely divided into M, and the respective height position coordinate values are set as P (I) (I = 1,..., M). In step S4020, an arbitrary number R in the range from 0 to 1 is designated for the P (I) region by a predetermined optimization algorithm. In step S4030, if R is larger than 0.5, P (I) is increased by a predetermined value, and if R is 0.5 or less, it is decreased by a predetermined value. As the optimization algorithm, for example, an annealing method (Genetic Algorithm), a genetic algorithm, or the like is used. In step S4040, the corrected shape is updated. In step S4050, it is determined whether I = M. If I = M, the process returns to step S4020. If I = M, the process proceeds to step S4060.
The height h of the lattice in the
Where n is the refractive index of the substrate and n0Indicates the refractive index of the medium on the outgoing light side. At this time, if the height h is outside the range of the above formula, the first-order diffraction efficiency is reduced, and the light collection intensity of the diffractive optical element is reduced. In
The reason for the change is that in the
In step S4060, diffraction efficiency is calculated using an electromagnetic wave rigorous analysis method. In step S4070, an evaluation function is calculated. The evaluation function φ is obtained by obtaining the difference between the calculated value of the diffraction efficiency η and the target value for each order i of the diffracted light, and adding the weight Wi. In step S4070, it is determined whether or not the value of the evaluation function φ is less than a predetermined value. If it is not less than the predetermined value, the process returns to step S4020, and if it is less than the predetermined value, the process ends.
FIG. 41 shows the results obtained by calculating the dependence of the first-order diffraction efficiency on each grating period. a) shows TE polarized light, and (b) shows TM polarized light. Here, the calculation used a rigorous coupled wave analysis (RCWA) as a technique for accurately reproducing the behavior of electromagnetic waves. FIG. 41 shows the result of the conventional saw-shaped shape and the result of the shape optimized by the above procedure so that the first-order diffraction efficiency is maximized. The refractive indexes on the optical element substrate and the outgoing diffracted light side are 1.5 and 1.0, respectively. At this time, when the period is extremely long with respect to the wavelength in the conventional saw-shaped shape, the diffraction efficiency can be about 90% or more. However, as the period becomes shorter, the diffraction efficiency becomes higher. It can be seen that when the period is about 2λ, only 20% is obtained. On the other hand, in the shape optimized to increase the first-order diffraction efficiency, when the period is long with respect to the wavelength, the obtained diffraction efficiency is almost the same as that of the prior art (saw shape). However, it can be seen that the optimized shape maintains approximately 80% even if the period is shortened.
FIG. 41 (c) shows the difference in first-order diffraction efficiency with respect to the polarization directions of incident light and TE wave and TM wave. The prior art (saw shape) is indicated by a dotted line, and the effect of the present invention is indicated by a solid line. In the saw-shaped shape, the difference in diffraction efficiency due to polarization is about 25% as the period is shortened, whereas in the optimized shape, it is about 13% at maximum, and the dependency of the diffraction efficiency on the polarization direction is saw-shaped. Small compared to shape. This indicates that the diffractive optical element of the present invention can improve the dependency of diffraction efficiency on the polarization direction of incident light.
FIG. 42 shows the cross-sectional shape of the diffractive optical element and the diffraction efficiency at each point when the lattice shape of the
The lattice cross-sectional shape in the
Here, “coupling by phase superposition” means superposition of waves. Since the difference in light intensity between the light by total reflection and the adjacent incident light by direct incidence is small, wave superposition is effectively performed on the grating slope. As a result, as shown in FIG. 40 (b), wavefronts satisfying certain conditions that increase the strength of each other by the superposition of waves again travel as reflected light. In order to strengthen each other, it is necessary that the directions of the amplitudes coincide. As a shape condition of the grating structure, a structure in which the traveling distance until the reflected wave meets an adjacent incident wave is equal to or less than the wavelength is considered to be a minimum.
In the prior art, it is considered that the above effect is confirmed in a region where the grating period is about the same as the wavelength. However, in the prior art, since the intensity of the adjacent incident light is larger than the intensity of the reflected light, the wave superposition works predominantly on the incident light, and as it is in the lattice as shown in FIG. As a result, the first-order diffracted light does not increase.
As described above, the grating shape of the present invention makes it possible to obtain diffracted light having higher diffraction efficiency than the conventional saw-shaped shape.
Returning to FIG. 42, in the
FIG. 43 shows the average value of the diffraction efficiency obtained with respect to the numerical aperture, which is a factor that determines the light collection intensity of the diffractive optical element. It can be seen that the results of the present invention maintain a high diffraction efficiency even when the numerical aperture is large, as compared with the results of the prior art shown by the dotted line. Therefore, it is possible to realize a diffractive optical element having a large numerical aperture with higher performance than the prior art, and by using this, an optical device having higher performance can be provided.
In the above-described embodiments of the diffractive optical element, it is assumed that the polarization direction of incident light is TE polarized light, but the present invention can be applied to any polarized light.
Further, the substrate material of the diffractive optical element according to the embodiment of the present invention is not limited to glass, plastic, optical crystal, and the like as long as the material has a sufficient transmission region in the wavelength region to be used.
Further, the diffractive optical element can be manufactured by using lithography technology (light source is ultraviolet light, X-ray, electron beam, etc.) or cutting by semiconductor manufacturing technology. Alternatively, since it is a diffractive optical element having a continuous shape, it can be molded for the purpose of mass production using plastic or glass by making an original plate by lithography or cutting and producing a mold.
As described above, the diffractive optical element according to the present invention reduces spherical aberration as compared with the lens, and increases the light collection efficiency by arranging the optimized grating structure at the peripheral portion. It is possible to prevent a decrease in diffraction efficiency, which is a point. As the light collection efficiency at the peripheral portion increases, the light collection efficiency of the entire element increases, and an optical element having a high numerical aperture can be realized. As a result, by using the diffractive optical element of the present invention, it is possible to improve the performance of the optical system and the optical device as compared with the conventional diffractive optical element, and by making the diffractive optical element structure usable, It is possible to reduce the weight and size of the optical system.
FIG. 44 shows the diffraction grating having the special shape described above.
