Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable read and write to a tape through the use of one magnetic tape device by adding a discrimination flag to discriminate data and tape mark information, and block size information to respective block data, storing them and recording the data in the magnetic tape according to those. CONSTITUTION:A tape mark (TM) is added before and behind the data of every block of the magnetic tape (MT). At first, when the VOL name of the MT is set from a key board 5, a display 4 displays it, and a central processing unit 2 starts reception. The unit 2 adds the block size information to every block data having been read out, and stores them in a memory 3. After read-in is finished, the unit 2 receives the VOL name, and reads in the contents of the memory 3, and sets a block data table. Next, it judges the TM flag information to discriminate the data and the TM, and according to this and block size data, it makes an MT device 1 to execute the write to the new MT. Thus, both the read and the write to the MT comes possible by using one device.
