Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of a catalyst and to promote an ozonolysis reaction by providing an UV lamp for decomposing ozone in a gas- permeable ozonolysis catalyst bed. CONSTITUTION:An axial fan 12 is operated to introduce a gaseous mixture G contg. ozone and supplied from an opening 14 through a flow straightening plate 15 into the ozonolysis catalyst bed 18, and the ozone is decomposed into oxygen by the catalyst. Since the ozone is simultaneously irradiated by the ozonolysis UV lamp 20 at this time, the ozone is also decomposed thereby. In addition, the ozonolysis UV lamp 20 produces heat, hence the mixed air and ozonolysis catalyst bed 18 around the lamp are heated, and the ozonolysis reaction is promoted. Since the catalyst is directly irradiated by the UV lamp 20 in this case, the nascent oxygen generated by the UV rays acts in reverse way to the deterioration reaction of the catalyst, and the catalyst is reactivated.
