Abstract

PURPOSE:To monitor a light transmission system, by controlling the delivery of a monitoring optical signal for (n) optical sensors with wavelength different from that of an optical signal for transmission which performs transmission/ reception via an optical fiber, and monitoring it based on back scattered light. CONSTITUTION:In a light transmitter/receiver 1, a transmission signal Sia is delivered from an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 5 to an optical fiber 2 as the optical signal Lia with wavelength lambdax, and is restored to a transmission signal Soa at a light transmitter/receiver 3. On the other hand, a transmission signal Sib is delivered from the transmitter/receiver 3 as the optical signal Lib with wavelength lambday, and is restored to a transmission signal Sab at the transmitter/receiver 1. In a monitoring operation mode, a monitoring part 10 in the transmitter/receiver delivers optical pulse signals L11-L1n with wavelength lambda1-lambdan to the fiber 2 in time series by controlling a switch circuit 13 by a control monitoring part 12, and performs monitoring based on the back scattered light obtained from the fiber 2 and sensors S1-Sn. In such a way, it is possible to perform the monitoring of the light transmission system by using the optical fiber to be used in the transmission of the transmission signal.
