PURPOSE: To efficiently defrost in a short time to improve the air heating operation availability by providing two compressors on an outdoor unit and operating the two compressors simultaneously for defrosting when an outdoor heat exchanger is frosted due to heating operation. CONSTITUTION: In the heating operation, a refrigerant condensed in an indoor heat exchanger 36 passes through a check valve 38 and a refrigerant controller 34, expands at an expansion valve 31, flows into an outdoor heat exchanger 29 and flows to a suction of a compressor 23 through a four-way valve 27. When the outdoor heat exchanger 29 is frosted as the outside temp. is low in such heating operation, a temp. sensor 43 detects a decrease of temp. in the outdoor heat exchanger 29, an operation controller 41 makes the heat exchanger function 29 as a condenser to melt frost with the heat of a compressed and high temp. refrigerant. In the defrosting operation the two compressors 23, 24 are simultaneously operated so that a large amount of the high temp. high pressure refrigerant can be fed to the outdoor heat exchanger 29 to quickly defrost.
