Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce acrylic acid in high productivity via acrolein, by oxidizing propylene in two steps using a raw material gas having a specific composition. CONSTITUTION:Acrylic acid is produced by two-step oxidization of propylene. The raw material gas to be supplied to the 1st-step reaction is a mixture of (A) 5-70vol.% of a 1-5C saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon, (B) 3-50vol.% of carbon dioxide (the sum of the components A and B is 20-80vol.%) and (C) 0.5-8mol. of steam based on 1mol. of propylene. Preferably, the propylene concentration in the raw material gas for the 1st-step reaction is 5-20vol.% and the molar ratio of molecular oxygen concentration to propylene is 1.4-4.0. The conversion of propylene in the 1st-step reaction is preferably >=70%. The waste gas discharged after the reaction is preferably reused as a raw material gas.
