Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the diffusion of the water and oxygen in the atm. air into a magneto-optical recording film and to provide the longer life and higher reliability of a disk by providing a fluoride-, carbide-, oxide- or sulfide-layer to both or one face near the boundary faces of the above-mentioned film. CONSTITUTION:At least one compd. selected from the group consisting of the fluoride, carbide, oxide, and sulfide is formed on at least one or both faces of the boundary faces of the magneto-optical recording film. A reactive gas which can form at least one compd. selected from the group consisting of the fluoride, carbide, oxide, and sulfide by reacting with the material of the magneto-optical recording film is added to a film forming atmosphere to form the above-mentioned compd. to one or both faces near the boundary faces of the magneto-optical recording film. The diffusion of the oxygen and water into the recording film is, therefore, prevented by the fluoride layer, carbide layer, oxide layer and sulfide layer formed near the boundary faces of the recording film. The longer life and higher reliability of the recording film are thereby obtd.
