Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an excess stress from being applied to a seal portion of a gas charging type shock absorber upon charging of gas and thereby prevent breakage of seal members by dividing the seal portion into two parts and making the two parts movable. CONSTITUTION:A housing 3 is formed at its lower portion with a gas supplying port 5 for charging gas into a shock absorber 1, and is provided with a gas charging device including a wrench portion 6 for threadedly tightening a packing gland 2 to the absorber 1 after charging the gas and closing an open end 4 and seal portion 12 for sealing the inside of the housing 3. The seal portion 12 is substantially diametrically divided into two parts, and the two parts are made radially movable by cylinders 18 through brackets 17. In attaching or detaching the absorber 1 to or from the gas charging device, the seal portions 12 are radially moved to release the engagement with the absorber 1. Accordingly, an excess stress is prevented from being applied to the seal portions, thereby preventing breakage of seal members.
