Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester good in whiteness of fiber and excellent in antistatic property or dyeability, by producing a polyester comprising ethylene terephthalate by adding a specified polyalkylene glycol to the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:In the production of a polyester comprising ethylene terephthalate comprising at least 80% recurring structural units, at least one polyalkylene glycol of the formula, and having a content of K+Na<=3ppm and an average MW>=400 is added to the reaction system and copolymerized. In the formulas, R is a 1-26C aliphatic hydrocarbon group or an aromatic hydrocarbon group or H, A is a 2-4C alkylene or a substituted alkylene, and m is an integer (the degree of polymerization). When the content of K+Na is above 3ppm, the purpose cannot be accomplished. When the MW is below 400, loss is large due to adhesion to the machine or dusting during reaction in a vacuum, etc. Therefore, both cases are not desirable.
