Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a transparent ceramic bracket prevented from brittleness and chipping and excellent from the aspect of a fine view, by using transparent ceramics having a spinnel type crystal structure consisting of magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide. CONSTITUTION:Spinnel ceramics is represented by MgAl2O4 wherein a MgO/Al2 O3 mole ratio is 1:1 and can be present as one having a transparent spinnel type crystal structure even when said ratio is shifted slightly. In order to obtain material quality for a bracket, it is pref. to employ a hot press method. For example, a powder prepared by the wet mixing of magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide is used as a starting raw material to fill a graphite mold and subsequently heated to 1,350-1,450 deg.C under vacuum while pressurized under pressure of 200-800kg/cm<2> to be held at that temp. for 1-2hr before reduced in pressure and gradually cooled. Further, when the treated one is again heated to 1,000-1,200 deg.C in air, an objective sinter is obtained.
