Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the number of viruses present in blood, by using a virus- removing apparatus containing porous hollow fibers as principal part and placing the removing apparatus in a flow path of plasma transferred from a plasma- separation apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A leukocyte-removing filter 3 and a plasma-separation apparatus 4 are placed in a blood flow path 2 connecting a blood inlet port 1 and a blood delivery port 9. A virus-removing membrane 6 containing porous hollow fibers as principal component is placed in a plasma path 5 connected to the plasma separation apparatus 4 and a plasma path 7 following the virus-removing membrane 6 is connected to a blood path 8 following the plasma-separation apparatus 4. The principal part of the virus-removing membrane 6 is porous hollow fibers having an average pore diameter of 10-100nm (measured by water-filtration rate), a plane porosity of >=0.25, a minimum average pore diameter of 0.02-0.2mum and a minimum plane porosity of 0.05-0.5. The fiber has laminar structure in the direction of wall thickness and has a wall thickness of >=10mum.
