PURPOSE:To obtain an extra-high mercury lamp which is small in deterioration of an electrode, in particular, electrode on the electron emitting side and long in life by inserting a metal body high in heat conductivity into at least an electron emitting electrode main body along the longitudinal direction so as to make into two-layer structure. CONSTITUTION:A cathode 12 is so formed that it has diameter c=2mm and has two-layer structure where the outer layer 12A consists of tungsten (La2O3-W) which includes La2O3 by 2% and the inner layer 12B consists of metal which is higher in heat conductivity and lower in low melting point than the tungsten, for example, copper. This inner part 12B is formed by providing a through hole, in the center axis direction, in the outer layer 12A by a hollow processing method and casting copper into this through hole. An anode 13 is so formed that it has diameter d=4mm and two-layer structure where the outer layer 13A consists of Pure-W, and the inner layer 13B consists of metal which is higher in heat conductivity and lower in low melting point than the Pure-W, for example, copper. This inner layer 13B is formed also by casting copper into a through hole provided in the center axis direction of the outer layer 13A.
