Abstract

PURPOSE:To see the reference light, to accurately set the position of a bar code by causing the optical axis of the laser light for bar code detection and that of the reference light, which consists of visible rays indicating the irradiation range of said laser light, to coincide with each other. CONSTITUTION:A condensing means 15 which condenses the laser light and visible rays superposed one over the other by a first optical path deflecting means 14 and a second optical path deflecting means 19, a scanning means 16 which reflects condensed laser light and visible rays and projects them onto a bar code 17 to scan it, a separating means 19 which separates the laser light and visible rays which are reflected on the bar code and are returned through the scanning means 16 and the condensing means 15, and a detecting means 20 which detects the laser light separated by the separating means 19 are provided. Since the laser light from a semiconductor laser and visible rays from a visible light source are superposed on the same optical path by the first optical path deflecting means 14 and the second optical path deflecting means 19, the bar code is set to an accurate position.
