Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent hydrogen embrittlement from being generated on a hard plated layer by subjecting the surface of a saw to pickling treatment in a short time with acid liquid having specified composition before the following plating treatment in the case of plating hard chromium and hard metal on the surface of the saw and hardening it. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a saw made of steel is plated with hard metal such as hard chromium in order to improve the cutting quality and durability of the saw blade by hardening the surface. In this case, before plating treatment, the saw is subjected to such pretreatment that it is used as an anode in hydrochloric acid liquid contg. 2-5% oxidizing agent such as nitric acid, chromic acid anhydride and bichromate and 0.1-0.5% inhibitor and electrolytically pickled. Then after plating hard chromium thereon, the saw is heat-treated at >=150 deg.C for >=1hr to release hydrogen existing in the plated layer of hard chromium and thereby the saw teeth plated with hard chromium are prevented from being broken in pieces by hydrogen embrittlement and failure such as a crack and barrel folding is prevented from being generated.
