Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a large image plane flat panel having high quality by forming at least either of transparent substrates of a flexible plastic sheet and disposing a transparent base body via a liquid or gas layer on the outside surface of the flexible plastic sheet. CONSTITUTION:One of two sheets of the transparent substrates on which transparent electrodes 2 and oriented films 3 are formed is constituted of a glass plate or the flexible plastic sheet and another is constituted of the flexible plastic sheet. The liquid layer or gas layer 5 is provided on the outside of at least one flexible plastic sheet of this cell for a display element and the transparent base body 6 is provided on the outside thereof. The cell is constituted by providing dot- or stripe-like solid materials having a prescribed height on the inside of at least one substrate and further providing adhesive materials on the solid materials and sticking another substrate to this substrate according to the size of the cell to be used. The cell for the large image screen display element which has the excellent uniformity of the cell spacing and is greatly improved in the orientation by the shock intrinsic to the display element formed by using a ferroelectric liquid crystal and the breakdown of the memory characteristic is thereby formed.
