Abstract

PURPOSE: To thoroughly remove deposits so that sharp images can be formed by attaching and detaching an elastic roller for cleaning into which a polishing material is dispersed and incorporated to and from a photosensitive body in synchronization with an image forming process.
CONSTITUTION: A cleaning blade 12 and a sponge roller 13 consisting of urethane are turnably supported to a shaft 17 in a cleaning device. The polishing material of silicon carbide having 25μm average grain size is dispersed and incorporated into the sponge roller 13. The sponge roller 13 is detached together with the blade 12 from the photosensitive body 1 during the image formation. The roller is brought into pressurized contact with the photosensitive body 1 just before the remaining toner arrives at the blade 12 after the end of the prescribed transfer. Since the cleaning material is incorporated in the roller 1 a high cleaning effect is thus obtd and the sharp multi-color images are formed.
