Abstract

PURPOSE:To simply manufacture zinc alloy powder having high mercury concentration on its particle surface by amalgamating zinc alloy powder prepared by atomizing the alloy obtained by adding specific elements such as aluminium to molten zinc with mercury or a specific mercury compound in a dry process. CONSTITUTION:Zinc having a purity of 99.997% or more is melted at about 500 deg.C. Al and Ni and/or Co, or in addition to these elements at least one element selected from Pb, In, Cd, Tl, and Ga are mixed to the molten zinc, and the alloy obtained is atomized by using high pressure argon gas to obtain atomized zinc alloy powder. The alloy powder is amalgamated in a dry process with mercury or a compound of mercury with at least one element selected from Pb, In, Cd, Tl, and Ga to manufacture amalgamated zinc powder. The amalgamated zinc alloy powder obtained has higher mercury concentration on its particle surface compared with that manufactured in a usual process, and its gas evolution is also decreased.
