Abstract

PURPOSE:To extend a dynamic range by selecting the detection output from a 1st stimulated light detection means if a 1st optical sensor is not saturated and selecting the detection output from a 2nd stimulated light detection means if the 1st optical sensor is saturated. CONSTITUTION:The stimulated light beam generated by an image plate IP3 by projecting an excitation light are respectively and simultaneously inputted in line sensors 58A and 58B through light guides 22A and 22B and filters 23A and 23B and respectively converted into digital signals by A/D converters 25A and 25B before they are incorporated in a saturation detection circuit 56. Control signals are transmitted to a selection switch 57 so that the output from the line sensor 58A is selected when the saturation detection circuit 56 decides that the optical sensor is not saturated and the output from the line sensor 58B is selected when the circuit 56 decides that it is saturated. Thus, the range of the quantity of incident light which can be detected, that means, the dynamic range can be extended.
