Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a hollow Al-alloy material having high strength and high wear resistance with high efficiency at a low cost, by subjecting an Al-alloy billet having a specific composition containing Si, Cu, and Mg to specific soaking treatment and then to extrusion forming at a specific temp. lower than the soaking temp. CONSTITUTION:An Al-alloy billet which has a composition containing 4-15% Si, 0.5-5% Cu, and 0.2-1% Mg as essential components, further containing, if necessary, one or more kinds among <=0.4% Fe and <=0.25%, each, of Mn, Cr, Zn, and Ti, and having the balance essentially Al is cast. This billet is subjected to soaking treatment at 450-520 deg.C for 2-8hr. Then, the above billet is subjected to extrusion forming by using a porthole die at a temp. lower than the temp. of the above soaking treatment, 400-500 deg.C. By this method, the hollow material with the desired cross section can be manufactured by using the Al-Si alloy combining high strength with high wear resistance.
