Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the corrosion of the surface of each Al slab by condensed dew during heating to the rolling temp. in a direct firing type heating furnace by preheating the slab to the dew point or above with air heated with hot exhaust gas from the heating furnace.
CONSTITUTION: Each Al slab W is uprighted with an uprighting device 12 and transferred from the inlet of a hating furnace 1 to the outlet. During the transfer, combustion exhaust gas from direct firing type burners 15 is blown on the surface of the slab W with circulation fans 16 to heat the slab W to a prescribed hot rolling temp. Before the slab W is heated, the inner door 9 of the furnace 1 is shut, the outer door 7 is opened and the slab W is put in the vestibule 5. The door 7 is shut, air in an air duct 20 connected to a recuperator 19 is heated with hot exhaust gas from the furnace 1 and the slab W in the vestibule 5 is preheated to the dew point or above with the heated air. The inner door 9 is opened again and the slab W is sent into the furnace 1 and heated to the rolling temp. with the burners 15. Since the slab W is preheated to the dew point or above, the surface is not corroded by condensed dew contg. an acidic component.
