Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable stable traveling of a thermal head with respect to an ink ribbon, by forming a primer layer between ink layers and making the friction between said primer layer and a member to be transferred higher than the friction between a basic material and the thermal head. CONSTITUTION:Under the condition that an ink layer 13 contacts a member to be transferred, a thermal head is advanced in contact with the other face of a base material 11 and then the thermal head is heated selectively so as to thermally transfer the ink onto the member to be transferred. In such a thermal transfer ink ribbon 15, a primer layer 12 having the friction with respect to the member to be transferred higher than the friction between the other face of the base material 11 and the thermal head is provided between ink layers 13 (13C, 13M, 13Y) formed with predetermined intervals. Consequently, the friction force of the face formed with the ink layer 13 which contacts with the member to be transferred will be approximately constant and higher than the frictional force with respect to the thermal head at the side of the base material 11, thus enabling stable traveling of the thermal head with respect to the ink ribbon 15.
