Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify a circuit structure and remove ambiguity by applying an angle modulation according to a prescribed code to a carrier wave modulated by a single frequency and measuring a time difference between a demodulated code and the code of the modulated wave.
CONSTITUTION: Carrier wave from an oscillator 6 is modulated (5) by a principal tone from an oscillator 8, then modulated (4) by an ambiguity removing code from a generator 7, transmission-frequency-converted (3) and emitted from an antenna 1 to an artificial satellite. Repetition wave from the artificial satellite is supplied to a demodulator 12 via the antenna 1, a received frequency converter 10 and an intermediate frequency amplifier 11. A principal tone signal in demodulated signals is compared with the output of the oscillator 8 in a phase difference measuring unit 13 and a phase difference between the principal tone signal and the output of the oscillator 8 is measured. On the other hand, an ambiguity removing code in the demodulated signals is compared with the output of the generator 7 in a transmission delay measuring unit 14. On the basis of a transmission delay and a principal tone phase difference thus obtained, a processor 15 calculates an accurate measured value of a distance.
