Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the structure of a MODEM in ultrasonic phase shifting modulation by using ram wave devices for modulation and demodulation on the transmission side and the reception side respectively.
CONSTITUTION: An analog switch 1 outputs a pair of modulated signals 1a and 1b, which are obtained by switching a carrier signal in accordance with the logic level of a message signal, to a ram wave device 2. The device 2 has the BPF function, the binary phase shift keying (BPSK) function, the synchronizing function, etc., and outputs a BPSK signal 2a subjected to phase shifting modulation. In the case of reception a switch 8 is set to the position opposite to that shown in the figure to lead an input BPSK signal 8a to a signal carrier reproducing circuit 9 and a ram wave device 10. The circuit 9 generates a carrier signal 9a synchronized with the signal 8a. The device 10 discriminates the signal 8a from the signal 9a in accordance with its modulation phase and outputs signals 10a and 10b. A detector 11 converts them to base band signals, and an encoder 12 logically discriminates signals 10a and 10b to constitute the original message signal again.
