Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove floating particulates of approximately 1μm particulate diameter by expanding adiabatically the air mixed with vapor, forming droplets out of the vapor with particulates in the air as coagulation nucleus and removing the droplets by means of electric dust collection.
CONSTITUTION: Water is sprayed from a spray opening 6 into a nozzle chamber 5, and water is evaporated to turn into vapor in the chamber 5. The air mixed with vapor in the chamber 5 is adiabatically expanded by being introduced from a contracted diameter section 13a of a nozzle throat 13 to a diameter expanded outlet 13b, and water droplets are formed from vapor with floating particulates in the air as coagulation nucleus by the temperature drop generated by adiabatic expansion. The floating particulates in the air are removed and the air is cleaned by communicating the diameter expanded outlet 13b with the expansion chamber 14 and removing water droplets by means of an electric dust collector consisting of an electric discharge electrode 18 and dust collecting electrodes 20 and 21 provided in the expansion chamber 14.
