Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a biodegradable and gradually releasing complex, by combining a hormone preparation with a low-molecular-weight poly(glycolic acid/L- lactic acid).
CONSTITUTION: A hormone is melted or dispersed in a glycolic acid-L-lactic acid copolymer of 200W5,000mol.wt. containing 30W70% of L-lactic acid and they are thoroughly mixed. Then, for example, a teflon tube is filled with the copolymer, heated from room temperature to 150°C at from the normal pressure to 1,000kg/cm2 to soften or melt the mixture and sterilized by irradiation with active rays from 60Co, 137Cs to obtain a hormone-containing biodegradable high-molecular-weight complex which can be charged in disposal type injection syringes. The copolymer is produced in a dehydrative condensation system in the presence of no catalyst.
