Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain sufficient output, when stopping any one of multiple superchargers and bypassing exhaust gas from a Diesel engine through a power turbine, by changing the bypass flow rate of the exhaust gas to maintain an optimum bypass ratio.
CONSTITUTION: When two superchargers 1, 2 are both operated and their exhaust gas energy is retrieved as power by means of a power turbine 4, valves 14, 15 respectively arranged at bypass pipes 11, 12 are both opened. Air compressed with the superchargers 1, 2 is sent to a Diesel engine 3 and exhaust gas from the Diesel engine 3 is bypassed. At this time, bypass flow rate is controlled at both of the gas inlets 8, 9 so that a bypass ratio becomes optimum and a specified amount of flow is sent to a power turbine 4. On the other hand, when the power turbine 4 is used at the time of a cutdown operation in which either one of the superchargers is not used, either one of valves 14, 15 is closed while the other valve is opened. By doing so, the bypass flow rate can be halved.
