PURPOSE:To measure the color temperature of a part which is picked up actually at all times regardless of whether or not the image is zoomed up and to adjust white balance correctly by arranging a color temperature detection sensor at the periphery of an image pickup element. CONSTITUTION:A light beam 3 which enters a lens barrel 2 through a lens system 1 enters the image pickup element 5 through a filter 4. At this time, part of the light beam 3 is reflected and made incident on the color temperature detection sensor 6 arranged nearby the image pickup element of the lens barrel 2 of an image pickup device, so that the color temperature is measured. When the periphery of the sensor 6 is photographed, a scene of the periphery matching with the best color temperature of the periphery of the camera is picked up. In case of telephoto, the scene of the periphery of the video camera is cut by a zoom lens and only an image obtained in the telephoto is made incident on the lens, so that white balance is adjusted with the color temperature of the image.
