Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily obtain the titled compound useful as a perfume substance in high purity and selectivity, by subjecting cis-γ-irone to catalytic reducing reaction in an organic solvent in the presence of palladium catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: cis-γ-Irone expressed by formula I is subjected to catalytic reducing reaction in an organic solvent in the presence of palladium catalyst (e.g. palladium-carbon) to provide cis-dihydro-γ-irone. The reaction is readily carried out for example at hydrogen pressure of 1W20kg/cm2, preferably range of about 1W5kg/cm2 at reaction temperature of about 0W50°C, preferably about 10W30°C. The palladium catalyst is preferably used in a range of about 0.5W10wt% based on the compound expressed by formula I. The organic solvent includes for example preferably hexane, ethyl acetate, etc.
