Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound at a relatively low temperature and in a short period in high yield without variation of yield, by reacting phthalonitrile with a metal salt at a specific temperature or above while heating in the presence of both an alkali metal carbonate and oxalic acid.
CONSTITUTION: Phthalonitrile is reacted with a metal salt (example; zinc acetate, etc.) in a ratio of 4W6mol former to 1mol latter in the presence of both preferably 2W5mol (based on 1mol metal salt) alkali metal carbonate (example; sodium carbonate, etc.) and preferably 1W5mol (based on 1mol metal salt) oxalic acid at ≥200°C, preferably 200W280°C to afford the aimed compound.
