A case body having a grasping part, an image reading part provided at one end of the case body, an image writing part provided at the other end of the case body, and a control part capable of inputting/outputting and storing image data. A portable image forming apparatus comprising: a printing ribbon having a slit portion formed of a light-transmitting portion and a light-shielding portion at a side end thereof; and a ribbon supplying means for passing the printing ribbon to a printing surface of a writing head of the image writing portion. and a sensor section that generates an electrical signal every time the light-transmitting section or the light-blocking section of the slit section passes.
