Abstract

PURPOSE:To simply and certainly erase the erroneous printing of a character or mark erroneously recorded, by a method wherein a thermal head is moved in the direction reverse to that at the time of printing in a head-down state while the thermal head is allowed to generate heat and an ink ribbon is trans ferred in the direction reverse to a transfer direction. CONSTITUTION:A thermal head 4 is set to a head-down state at a position (c) and an ink ribbon 6 is held between a thermal head 4 and recording paper 10. Next, the thermal head 4 is moved to a position (e) skipping three characters of DEF in the direction shown by an arrow (d). By this mechanism, the ink ribbon 6 is transferred while the unused part thereof is drawn out by the same quantity as the moving quantity of the thermal head 4 from a ribbon take up bobbin. Next, the thermal head 4 is returned from the position (e) skipping three characters of DEF and moved to the direction shown by an arrow (f) and, at the same time, the heat generating part of the thermal head 4 is allowed to generate heat to adhere the characters DEF to be erased to an ink layer 21. It is an indispensable condition necessary for erasure that the ink ribbon 6 is peeled off from recording paper 10 after the ink ribbon 6 is cooled and a release layer 22 is solidified.

Furthermore, when performing a collect operation to erase the recording 24 transferred onto the i-recording paper 10, as shown in FIG. 5a,
The ink ribbon 6 is pressed so that the ink layer 21 side faces the recording 24 to be corrected on the recording paper 10. When erasing energy is applied to the thermal head 4 in this state, the ink layer 21 and the release layer n melt. Then, as shown in FIG. 5, the melted ink layer 21 and the recording 24 are bonded together. After that, when the supply of energy is stopped, the temperature of the ink ribbon 6 becomes lower than the melting point of the release layer η, and the release layer 22 solidifies. From this state, as shown in FIG. 5C, when the ink ribbon 6 is peeled off from the recording paper 10,
The upper recording row becomes integral with the ink ribbon 6 and separates from the recording paper 10 to complete erasing.

Figure 7 shows that the user of the thermal printer uses ABCDEF.
G) I noticed the error in the word DMF when I printed it as iID
It is an explanatory diagram when deleting EF and correcting it to the word JKL. First, the thermal head 4 is placed in the up position as shown in FIG. Next, the thermal head 4 is moved in the direction of the arrow and stopped at a position C where character printing starts or a little to the left of it (FIG. 7a). At this position C, the thermal head 4 is brought down as shown in FIG. 2A, and the ink ribbon 6 is held between the thermal head 4 and the recording paper 10. Next, move the thermal head 4 in the two directions of the arrows to a position H that exceeds the three letters of DEF (Fig. 7b).
). As a result, the unused portion of the ink ribbon 6 is pulled out from the ribbon take-up bobbin 7a by an amount equal to the amount of movement of the thermal head 4 and transported. Although not shown, when the thermal head 4 is in the down state, the clutch machine ms causes the ribbon winding bobbin 7 of the ribbon cassette 7 to
The driving force is selectively transmitted to either one of a and 7b, and when the thermal head 4 moves to the right (printing direction) in FIG. When moving in the S direction (erasing direction), the bobbin 7a rotates and winds up the transferred ink ribbon/6 so that it does not slacken.

Next, the thermal head 4 is returned from the position E beyond the three characters of DEF and moved in the direction of the arrow, and at the same time the heat generating part of the thermal head 4 is heated to erase the data that should be erased as described above in the erasing principle. The letters DEF and the ink layer 21 of the unused portion of the ink ribbon 6 that was not pulled out during the imitation are adhered (FIG. 7C). As mentioned above, it is an essential condition for erasing to peel off the ink ribbon 6 from the recording paper 10 after the ink ribbon 6 has cooled and the release layer 22 has solidified. As shown in FIG.
The thermal head 4 is provided at the rear end in the printing direction, and the moving direction of the thermal head 4 during erasing is the opposite direction to that during printing, so the part that is heated and adhered to the characters to be erased is moved by the thermal head 4. Until it reaches the other end 4b of the thermal head 4, it is pressed against the recording paper 10 by the thermal head 4, so it does not leave the recording paper 10. In other words, during that time, the ink ribbon 6 reaches the temperature at which the release layer 22 solidifies. When the ink ribbon 6 is peeled off from the recording paper 10 at the other end 4b of the thermal head 4, the characters to be erased become one with the ink ribbon 6, leave the recording paper 10, and are erased. becomes possible. Regarding the heating method of the heat generating part 4a, it is possible to memorize the characters to be erased and generate heat only in the part corresponding to the character to be erased among the plurality of heat generating parts, or to All of 4a may generate heat. The thermal head 4, which has erased the word DEF to be erased by the above-described operation, waits at the printing start position where the letters were printed in order to reprint the word JKL (FIG. 7d). At this time, the recording paper 10 may be moved to a rad-up state and to a place where the erased state can be seen. When reprinting the word JKL, the thermal head 4 is moved in the direction of the arrow H as usual with the head down (FIG. 7e).

Next, another example will be described using FIG. 8 a% 6% C. In this embodiment as well, the user of the thermal printer
An example will be explained in which the word DEF is deleted after printing BCDEF GHI. Move the thermal head 4 with the head down from position A' where the letter "I" has been printed.
3, which is the number of characters in the word DEF that should be erased without generating heat.
Move it in the direction of the arrow at a position more than a character's distance away (Fig. 8a). As a result, the unused portion of the ink ribbon 6 is also transferred by the same amount. Next, at that position, the thermal head 4 is brought into a head-up state. Then, the thermal head 4 is moved in the direction of arrow 2' to a position adjacent to the right side of the letter F (FIG. 8b). At that position, the thermal head 4 is brought into a head-down state. Then, as in the above embodiment, the thermal head 4 is moved in the direction of the arrow ' while generating heat, and the characters to be erased are bonded to the unused portion of the ink ribbon 6 transferred by the above operation, thereby performing erasing ( Figure 8C).

An ink ribbon for printing and erasing is interposed between the recording paper and the thermal head, and the thermal head is pressed against the recording paper. When the head is down, the ink ribbon is transferred by the movement of the thermal head, and printing and erasing are performed by the heat generated by the thermal head. When erasing erroneous printing, the ink ribbon is moved beyond the erroneous printing range by lowering the thermal head and moving the thermal head in the same direction as when printing, and then with the head down. A thermal printer characterized in that erroneous printing is erased while an ink ribbon is transported in a direction opposite to the transport direction by moving a thermal head in a direction opposite to that during printing while generating heat.
