Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect a thyristor exciter from overcurrents even when a short circuit is generated in any section of an exciting circuit by mounting a current detector on the input side of the thyristor exciter.
CONSTITUTION: A current transformer 20 detects input currents to a thyristor exciter 6. When the input currents are higher than a set value, a signal is output from a comparator 22. When field voltage is lower than a set value, on the other hand, a signal is output from a comparator 23. When signals are output from both thc comparators 22, 23, a signal is output from a comparator 24. Con sequently, a circuit interrupting field currents is constituted in a logic circuit 25, and a gate shift for the thyristor exciter 6 and a field circuit breaker are interrupted. Accordingly, even when a closed-circuit failure is generated in any position of an exciting circuit, the thyristor exciter can be protected without damaging a thyristor and melting a quick fusing fuse.
