Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a contact lens material having oxygen permeabiity and adequate mechanical strength by using a di-tertiay butyl fumarate and bis(trifluoroethyl)fumarate as essential components.
CONSTITUTION: This lens material consists of a coplymer contg. the di-tertiay butyl fumarate and bis(trifluorethyl)fumarate as the essential components. The di-tertiay butyl fumarate (DtBF) is the compd. which is expressed by the formula (I) and exhibits some oxygen permeability but is extremely had and brittle. The bis(trifluoroethyl)fumarate (DTFEF) is the compd. expressed by the formula (II) and is the component to yield the contact lens material having the excellent oxygen permeability and adequate mechanical strength when copolymerized with DtBF. The material prepd. by adding 15W95mol parts, more preferably 70W85mol parts DtBF and 5W50mol parts, more preferably 15W30mol parts DTFEF to 100mol parts total amt. of the monomer is used in this case.
