Abstract
PURPOSE: To industrially and advantageously obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for producing perfumes or amino acids at a low reaction temperature, by reacting an aniline with a 1,2-glycol in the liquid phase in the presence of a specific catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An aniline in a molar amount of 0.5W30 times, preferably 1W20 times, based on 1mol 1,2-glycol, and the 1,2-glycol which are raw materials are reacted in the presence of a metal-containing compound containing ruthenium or rhodium as a catalyst and in the presence or absence of a solvent at 100W250°C, preferably 100W200°C in the liquid phase to afford the aimed compound. The amount of the catalyst to be used is preferably within 0.004W0.04 range based on 1mol 1,2-glycoll. A compound containing one molecule of an at least trivalent phosphorus compound is particularly preferred for the metal- containing compound.
