本発明はアルカリ電池等に用いる盲管型セパレ
ータの製造方法に関する。

従来は、吸収性の良いセパレータ材料を筒状に
巻回し重ね部をカルボキシメチルセルロース等の
接着剤で貼り合わせて筒状体を形成し、この筒状
体の一端部に厚紙を円板状に打ち抜いて形成した
底板を挿入して接着剤にて筒状体と貼り合わせて
盲管型セパレータを製造していた。ところが、こ
のような製造方法によると、接着剤による貼り合
わせ作業が煩雑で作業性が低下されるだけでな
く、貼り合わせが不十分であつたりすると電池に
組み込むときに底板が抜け落ちたりして著しく歩
留りを低下させる原因となつた。又、使用してい
る接着剤が電解液中に溶出したりあるいは変質し
たりすると、重ね部の間隙を活物質あるいは電導
助剤の粒子が通り抜けて対極と接触して内部短絡
を起こし、電池性能を著しく低下させる欠点があ
つた。
巻回し重ね部をカルボキシメチルセルロース等の
接着剤で貼り合わせて筒状体を形成し、この筒状
体の一端部に厚紙を円板状に打ち抜いて形成した
底板を挿入して接着剤にて筒状体と貼り合わせて
盲管型セパレータを製造していた。ところが、こ
のような製造方法によると、接着剤による貼り合
わせ作業が煩雑で作業性が低下されるだけでな
く、貼り合わせが不十分であつたりすると電池に
組み込むときに底板が抜け落ちたりして著しく歩
留りを低下させる原因となつた。又、使用してい
る接着剤が電解液中に溶出したりあるいは変質し
たりすると、重ね部の間隙を活物質あるいは電導
助剤の粒子が通り抜けて対極と接触して内部短絡
を起こし、電池性能を著しく低下させる欠点があ
つた。
そこで、本発明は前記した従来の盲管型セパレ
ータの製造方法による欠点を解消し、筒状体と底
板部材との間の固着不良を無くして歩留りを向上
させ、更に、活物質や電導助剤の粒子がセパレー
タを通過して内部短絡を起こすことを確実に防止
することのできる新規な製造方法を提供しようと
して為されたもので、熱可塑性合成繊維を主体と
するセパレータ材料によつて重ね部が熱融着によ
つて結合された筒状体を形成し、外周形状が筒状
体の内周形状と略一致する底板部材を筒状体の一
端部に稍内側まで挿入して端部に突出縁部が残さ
れるようにし、そして、この突出縁部を加熱して
これを軟化させると共に収縮させ、次いでこの軟
化しかつ収縮した突出縁部を底板部材に対して押
圧し両者を熱融着させることによつて筒状体の一
端に底板部材を固着するようにしたことを特徴と
する。

これを軟化させると共に収縮させ、次いでこの軟
化しかつ収縮した突出縁部を底板部材に対して押
圧し両者を熱融着させることによつて筒状体の一
端に底板部材を固着するようにしたことを特徴と
する。
先ず、熱可塑性合成繊維を主体とするセパレー
タ材料により筒状体1を形成する。セパレータ材
料としては、例えば熱可塑性合成繊維を主体とし
た不織布、織布、混抄紙、合成繊維紙が用いられ
る。このようなセパレータ材料2を、例えば第1
図に示すようにスパイラル状に巻回し隣接する側
縁3,3′を重ね合わせ、該重ね合わせ部を熱融
着によつて固着して筒状体1を得る。尚、筒状体
1を得る方法は第1図に示すものに限らず、例え
ば、第2図に示すようにセパレータ材料2を筒状
に巻回し両端の突き合わせ部4,4′を重ね合わ
せこの間を熱融着しても良い。
タ材料により筒状体1を形成する。セパレータ材
料としては、例えば熱可塑性合成繊維を主体とし
た不織布、織布、混抄紙、合成繊維紙が用いられ
る。このようなセパレータ材料2を、例えば第1
図に示すようにスパイラル状に巻回し隣接する側
縁3,3′を重ね合わせ、該重ね合わせ部を熱融
着によつて固着して筒状体1を得る。尚、筒状体
1を得る方法は第1図に示すものに限らず、例え
ば、第2図に示すようにセパレータ材料2を筒状
に巻回し両端の突き合わせ部4,4′を重ね合わ
せこの間を熱融着しても良い。
底板部材5は例えば耐アルカリ性を有する織
布、不織布、混抄紙、合成繊維紙又は合成樹脂板
を前記筒状体1の内周形状に略一致する外周形状
を有するように打ち抜いて形成される。尚、合成
樹脂板による場合は、射出成形等の樹脂成形法に
よつて形成しても良い。

しかして、底板部材5を、第3図Aに示すよう
に、筒状体1の一端部に稍内側まで挿入して端部
に突出縁部6が残されるようにする。次いで、こ
の突出縁部6を加熱して熱可塑性繊維を軟化させ
ると共に収縮を生ぜしめると、第3図Bに示すよ
うに内側にカールして来る。そこで、カールして
来た突出縁部6を底板部材5に対して第3図Cに
示す如く押圧すれば、突出縁部6と底板部材5と
が熱融着し、盲管型セパレータ7が得られる。
尚、加熱により収縮が急激に起こる場合は、カー
ル現象がすみやかに起こるため、第3図Bの工程
を省き、一気に押圧することによつて盲管型セパ
レータ7を得ることができる。

に突出縁部6が残されるようにする。次いで、こ
の突出縁部6を加熱して熱可塑性繊維を軟化させ
ると共に収縮を生ぜしめると、第3図Bに示すよ
うに内側にカールして来る。そこで、カールして
来た突出縁部6を底板部材5に対して第3図Cに
示す如く押圧すれば、突出縁部6と底板部材5と
が熱融着し、盲管型セパレータ7が得られる。
尚、加熱により収縮が急激に起こる場合は、カー
ル現象がすみやかに起こるため、第3図Bの工程
を省き、一気に押圧することによつて盲管型セパ
レータ7を得ることができる。
このようにして得られた電池用盲管型セパレー
タは筒状体の重ね部が熱融着によつて結合され、
又、底板部材の筒状体への結合も熱融着によるた
め、電池に組み込む際に底板部材が抜け落ちたり
することがなく、又、接着剤が電解液中へ溶出し
たり変質したりして重ね部の結合が不良となつた
りするということがないので活物質あるいは電導
助剤の粒子が重ね部を通り抜けて対極と接触し内
部短絡を起こすこともない。そして、これらのこ
とは、電池組立の作業性が著しく向上し、歩留り
もきわめて良好となり、更にはきわめて品質の安
定した電池を提供するのに資する。
タは筒状体の重ね部が熱融着によつて結合され、
又、底板部材の筒状体への結合も熱融着によるた
め、電池に組み込む際に底板部材が抜け落ちたり
することがなく、又、接着剤が電解液中へ溶出し
たり変質したりして重ね部の結合が不良となつた
りするということがないので活物質あるいは電導
助剤の粒子が重ね部を通り抜けて対極と接触し内
部短絡を起こすこともない。そして、これらのこ
とは、電池組立の作業性が著しく向上し、歩留り
もきわめて良好となり、更にはきわめて品質の安
定した電池を提供するのに資する。
尚、本発明方法によつて製造される盲管型セパ
レータはルクランシエ乾電池にも用いることがで
きることは勿論である。

実施例 1
ポリプロピレン繊維100%よりなる積層された
ウエブを熱融着して得た目付50g/m2、厚さ0.12
m/mの不織布を30m/mの幅にテープ状に裁断し
て不織布テープを得た。この不織布テープを螺旋
装置によりスパイラル状に巻き、重ね部を熱融着
させ、これを所定の長さにカツトし筒状体を作成
した。底板部材は厚さ2m/mのポリプロピレン
繊維100%不織布を円板状に打ち抜いて形成し、
これを前記の筒状体に底部より2m/m程度突出
縁部が出る様に挿入する。次いで、突出縁部を
150〜160℃に加熱された熱板に接触させると、該
突出縁は収縮を生じてカールし、これを底板部材
に向けて押圧すると、突出縁部は底板部材と熱融
着し盲管型セパレータが得られる。
ウエブを熱融着して得た目付50g/m2、厚さ0.12
m/mの不織布を30m/mの幅にテープ状に裁断し
て不織布テープを得た。この不織布テープを螺旋
装置によりスパイラル状に巻き、重ね部を熱融着
させ、これを所定の長さにカツトし筒状体を作成
した。底板部材は厚さ2m/mのポリプロピレン
繊維100%不織布を円板状に打ち抜いて形成し、
これを前記の筒状体に底部より2m/m程度突出
縁部が出る様に挿入する。次いで、突出縁部を
150〜160℃に加熱された熱板に接触させると、該
突出縁は収縮を生じてカールし、これを底板部材
に向けて押圧すると、突出縁部は底板部材と熱融
着し盲管型セパレータが得られる。

し、A図は側面図、B図はA図のB−B線に沿う
断面図、第2図は本発明方法による筒状体の別の
例を示し、A図は側面図、B図はA図のB−B線
に沿う断面図、第3図は本発明方法における筒状
体と底板部材との結合方法をA図からC図へ向つ

Claims (1)
- 1 熱可塑性合成繊維を主体とするセパレータ材
料によつて重ね部が熱融着によつて結合された筒
状体を形成し、外周形状が筒状体の内周形状と略
一致する底板部材を筒状体の一端部に稍内側まで
挿入して端部に突出縁部が残されるようにし、そ
して、この突出縁部を加熱してこれを軟化させる
と共に収縮させ、次いでこの軟化しかつ収縮した
突出縁部を底板部材に対して押圧し両者を熱融着
させることによつて筒状体の一端に底板部材を固
着するようにしたことを特徴とする電池用盲管型
セパレータの製造方法。
