The toner image formed as described above generally has weak adhesion to the support surface and easily collapses due to artificial or mechanical action, so it is difficult to fix the toner image using a normal fixing process. It's on. As a method for fixing a toner image, when a thermoplastic resin is used as a toner material, a heat fusing method is generally used in which a heating member is used to fuse the toner onto a support. Among these methods, the method with the highest thermal efficiency and without the risk of fire is to bring the toner image into direct contact with a heating element heated to a temperature sufficient to fuse the toner, and at the same time apply pressure with a separate member to fuse the toner image. It is well known that the contact heating method is used. Currently, this type of contact heating method has an internal heating heater, a heating roller whose outer peripheral surface is entirely covered with a material that has excellent non-adhesive properties against toner, and a heating roller whose outer peripheral surface is coated with a material that has an elastic material such as rubber. This method has already been put to practical use as a so-called heated roller fixing method in which fixing is carried out by passing a thin support on which a toner image is formed between pressure rollers covering a body.

In such a heating roller fixing device, the surface of the fixing roller that comes into direct contact with the toner image on the thin support is coated with a tetrafluoroethylene resin, a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene, etc. Or by coating with a superior non-adhesive material such as room temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber, the toner on the thin support is transferred to the fixing roller during fixing and the so-called offset phenomenon, which disturbs the image, can be avoided. It can be prevented. On the other hand, since the pressure roller for pressing the toner support against the fixing roller does not originally come into direct contact with the toner image, it does not need to be made of a material that is non-adhesive to the toner like the fixing roller, but is generally made of heat-resistant material, such as It is also possible to construct it from heat-curable silicone rubber, metal material, or the like.

However, when using a fixing device that uses a pair of rotating rollers made of the above-mentioned materials in a general dry type electronic copying machine that performs continuous copying, physical or chemical defects may occur locally on the surface of the fixing roller. Therefore, a very small amount of toner adheres to the fixing roller from the toner support during fixing, and after the support passes, it is transferred to the pressure roller, and the amount of toner transferred increases in proportion to the amount of copying. Another cause is that a small amount of toner that adheres to the back surface of the toner support adheres to the pressure roller and accumulates. This may cause malfunctions such as the toner support getting caught up in the pressure roller.

As described above, the conventional method has the disadvantage that the pressure roller must be cleaned after a relatively short period of use. Also, US Pat. No. 3,706,491 is known as a method for automatically cleaning the pressure roller, but when this method is used, the mechanism becomes extremely complicated, and furthermore, the entire mechanism of the copying machine must be stopped during cleaning. There is a big drawback.

The present invention has been specifically proposed to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks. That is, a material that is non-adhesive to the toner, such as tetrafluoroethylene resin or
A heat fixing roller having a thin film made of a copolymer of ethylene fluoride and propylene hexafluoride is provided, and a device that constantly cleans the surface of the heat fixing roller by contacting the roller, and the toner support is heated and fixed. The surface of the pressure roller that is brought into pressure contact with the roller is coated with an elastic material that is non-adhesive to the toner, such as room temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber. When fixing a toner image on a support using a fixing roller and a pressure roller such as those described above, a small amount of particles may adhere to the fixing roller due to physical or chemical defects in the thin non-adhesive material coated on the surface of the fixing roller. The toner is sequentially removed by a cleaning device equipped on the fixing roller, which prevents the toner from transferring and accumulating on the pressure roller as in the conventional method, and the toner carried from the back side of one of the toner supports is removed onto the surface of the pressure roller. Due to the formed non-adhesive surface, it is discharged to the outside together with the support without adhering to the surface of the pressure roller. Therefore, since both the heat fixing roller and the pressure roller can be kept in a clean state at all times, the device can be used as a normal fixing device for a long period of time without having to be cleaned, providing a device with excellent durability. can do.

Next, referring to the drawings shown as examples, 1 is a heat fixing roller whose entire circumferential surface is coated with a material that is non-adhesive to toner, such as tetrafluoroethylene resin; A heating heater 2 is built in the inner part. The heater 2 uses a heating device such as an infrared lamp or a nichrome wire, and is automatically controlled to maintain the surface of the fixing roller 1 within a specified temperature range. Reference numeral 3 denotes a pressure roller, and the outer periphery of a metal roller 4 is coated with a rubber-like elastic body 5 made of a heat-resistant elastic body and a material that is non-adhesive to toner. And it is in pressure contact with the heating fixing roller 1. Further, an appropriate drive mechanism is provided so that the heating fixing roller 1 and the pressure roller 3 rotate in the direction of the arrow in FIG. 1 at the same circumferential speed. In general, the surface temperature of the heating fixing roller varies somewhat depending on the feeding speed of the toner support, but the average temperature is 150.
Since the temperature is maintained between 200° and 200°, the rubber-like elastic body 5 used in the pressure roller must be made of a material that can withstand the above-mentioned temperature and has excellent mold releasability for the toner material used. is necessary.
It has been found that room-temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber or low-temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber is sufficient as a heat-resistant material that can withstand the above-mentioned temperatures. Among these rubber materials, KE1300RTV manufactured by Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. was developed especially for use in mold making molds.
Examples include KE1400RTV, KE111RTV, and KE1206RTV, which have extremely good mold releasability from general resins.
Reference numeral 6 denotes a thin support on which a toner powder image 7 is to be formed, and is configured to be fed between the heat fixing roller 1 and the pressure roller 3 by a guide plate 8. 9 is Jitsuganaki
48-20531 (Utility Model Publication No. 53-33568), in which a tooth-shaped rotating body made of a rubber-like elastic body approaches the surface of the heat fixing roller 1 and is constantly rotated counterclockwise. The toner support 6 is rotated to prevent the toner support 6 from wrapping around the heat fixing roller 1 after fixing. Reference numerals 10 and 11 denote discharge guide plates for the toner support 6, and discharge rollers 12 and 13 are provided at the discharge position to discharge the toner support 6 to the outside of the machine. Reference numeral 14 denotes a cleaning device for the heat fixing roller 1, which is provided so that a cleaning web 15 of the cleaning device is always in contact with the surface of the heat fixing roller 1, and the cleaning web is made of isophthalic acid and metaphenylenediamine. Nomex E-54A (trademark of DuPont), which is an aromatic polyamide compound formed by polycondensation of polycondensed polyamide, or glass fiber woven fabric is used. Both ends of the cleaning web are wound around the supply shaft 16 of the supply roller and the take-up shaft 17 of the recovery roller, and are stretched as shown. The cleaning web 15 is moved by a small amount for each copying operation so that a new cleaning web 15 always comes into contact with the heat fixing roller 1. Reference numeral 18 denotes a pressing piece made of heat-resistant felt to ensure that the cleaning web 15 comes into contact with one surface of the heat-fixing roller.

Since the present embodiment is constructed as described above, first, when the heating heater 2 is energized and the surface temperature of the heating fixing roller 1 rises to a temperature suitable for sufficiently melting the toner, the toner powder image 7 is transferred by the copying mechanism. When the formed toner support 6 is inserted between the heat fixing roller 1 and the pressure roller 3 via a guide plate, the toner powder image 7 is sequentially melted on the surface of the heat fixation roller 1 and fixed onto the toner support 8. Ru. Next, the discharge roller 12,
It is discharged to the outside at 13. During the above fixing, a small amount of molten toner adheres to the surface of the heat fixing roller 1, but it is successively cleaned and removed by the cleaning web 15 of the cleaning device 14, and the surface of the heat fixing roller that newly contacts the toner support 6 is always kept clean. This prevents the so-called offset phenomenon and also prevents the toner from being transferred from the heat fixing roller 1 to the surface of the pressure roller 3. Also, a small amount of toner adhering to the back surface of the toner support 6 comes into contact with the surface of the pressure roller 3 during heat fixing, but the surface of the pressure roller 3 is made of a non-adhesive material such as room temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber. Since it is made of a material, it is discharged from the machine while being adhered to the back surface of the toner support and does not accumulate on the surface of the pressure roller 3. Further, in order to prevent the toner support 6 from adhering to the heat fixing roller 1 and being conveyed as it is, the support separation device 9 is rotated counterclockwise to guide the toner support 6 toward the guide plate.

FIG. 2 shows another embodiment of the pressure roller 3.
In general, room temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber has inferior mechanical strength compared to normal heat vulcanizable silicone rubber, so it is especially elastic when operated for long periods of time while in contact with a heated fixing roller kept at a high temperature of 150 to 200 degrees Celsius. However, in order to improve these drawbacks, a heat-curable silicone rubber layer 19 is provided on the metal roller 21, and a room-temperature-curable silicone rubber layer is further added to the surface of the heat-curable silicone rubber layer 19. 20. By adopting the above-mentioned two-type structure, the mechanical strength of the elastic material is improved, and the adhesive strength between the metal roller 21 and the heat-vulcanized silicone rubber layer is improved, so a pressure roller that can withstand long-term use can be obtained. can be provided.

As described above, the present invention provides a heat fixing roller coated with a material that is non-adhesive to toner, and a rubber surface of the heat fixing roller that is made of a room-temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber that is non-adhesive to toner. A pressure roller coated with a shaped elastic body is pressed into contact with the pressure roller, and a belt-shaped cleaning device is brought into contact with the heating fixing roller to clean the surface of the heating fixing roller every time fixing is performed, and the toner is transferred to the pressure roller which is in pressure contact with a part of the heating fixing roller. In addition, since the surface of the pressure roller itself is made of a material that easily separates toner, toner does not adhere to the roller of the fixing device even after long-term use, making it possible to provide an extremely durable device. be.
