Abstract

PURPOSE:To execute the fully automatic processing of a check b reading out the amount of the check, storing the read value in a file, printing out the stored amount in a prescribed column of the check, reading out the front and back surfaces of the check, and storing the read results in the file. CONSTITUTION:The amount of check writer characters on a check 1 including a bill inserted into a window device 2 is read out by an MiCR character reading means 2'1 and stored in an amount file 11 through a line control 3. The amount is printed out on the prescribed column of the check 1 by an MiCR character printing means 2'2 in accordance with the stored contents. Then, the front and back surfaces of the check 1 are read out by a front/back image reading means 2'3 and the read image information is stored in a front/back image file 13 through a line control 12. Thereby, the processing of a lost check can be executed in accordance with the contents of the files 11, 13. Thus, the processing of checks can be fully automated and check receiving processing can be rapidly and efficiently executed by reducing the frequency of error generation.

Check processing at conventional banks is automated up to the point of reading and memorizing the magnetic ink characters on the check, but what happens after that is to enter the amount in the check designation column 6 and to save the front and back of the check. Since the process is carried out manually, it cannot be said to be efficient, and the process when an accident occurs as described above is not necessarily carried out quickly.

As explained above, among the three functions of the teller device 2, the second function is to print check amount data in the designated field 6, which was conventionally processed manually, and the third function is to store images of the front and back sides of the check. Since the above functions can be automatically performed as a series of operations together with the 10th function, the check acceptance process can be made much more efficient and the chances of errors occurring can be reduced. Furthermore, automatic searches can be easily performed in handling accidents such as damage, loss, or mis-delivery after being taken out to a clearinghouse.
