Sorting equipment for sorting by size,
Automation has progressed considerably and has been put into practical use, such as weight sorters using electronic scales and shape sorters that measure size using cameras, but grading by appearance inspection has not yet been automated and requires a large amount of human labor. The reality is that large quantities of fruits and vegetables are sorted out by people using tactics.

In other words, the selection criteria for grading is as stated in the National Standards for Fruits issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Forestry Bureau's Fruit Trees and Flowering Division in April 1985.
Judgment criteria for inspection items specific to each product, such as pest damage, injury, floating skin, and peeling, are expressed in text, and are not expressed in fixed numerical values such as measurement scales or measured values, but are classified based on human senses and vision. It has not been automated yet because it has been determined as follows.

For this reason, they are sorted manually according to sorting standards, but manual sorting can vary due to individual differences.
Furthermore, human senses change depending on the environmental (surrounding) conditions and change with time, resulting in variations in quality from day to day or time of day (morning, noon, evening), resulting in products with inconsistent quality being shipped. This has led to a decline in market and consumer confidence and, in some cases, to a decline in prices.

In the present invention, it is preferable to inspect the entire outer peripheral surface when determining the grade of fruits and vegetables, but since fruits and vegetables are soft and perishable, it is impossible to transfer them to inspect the entire outer peripheral surface, so the shape and dimensions are measured using a camera during transportation. At the same time, the color and scratches on the surface of the parts photographed by the camera are inspected and graded, and the parts are sorted into excellent, excellent, and good grades according to the size of the parts.

For measuring the shape and dimensions, the degree of coloration, and the degree of injury, publicly known techniques such as the above-mentioned Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 59-87081 can be used. The value is the degree of coloring, and the degree of injury is determined by the total number of pixels of the injury point. The degree of injury is determined by the infinite variation and uneven coloring, and the grading that is complicatedly combined depending on the size and number of injury points. Since it is not possible to sort according to standards, the degree of coloring must be measured by measuring the uniformity of the color, its center value, and the proportion of uncolored areas, and setting the standard values.Only uniformly colored products are considered excellent products. Not only that, but also new and improved fruits and vegetables can be made into excellent products at certain times (early fruits in the season) even when some parts of the fruits and vegetables are colored and other parts are uncolored.

Regarding the degree of injury, it is not just the total number of pixels of the injury point, but also the damage point to determine whether the total number of pixels is the result of many small injury points being added together, or ■ or several large injury points. We will create measurement items for the size and number of flaws and set their standard values, and we will make new improvements so that we can grade them in arbitrary combinations based on the size, shape, and distribution number of flaws.

The present invention uses a color sensor camera to measure the shape and dimensions of fruits and vegetables during transportation and to grade them. The color sensor camera also inspects the color and flaws on the surface of fruits and vegetables within its field of view and ranks them accordingly. The grade correction department checks for external defects that were not detected, and downgrades and corrects items with overlooked defects to adjacent grades, ensuring reliable grade sorting, resulting in uniform packaging without variations. This has the effect of gaining the trust of the market and consumers and increasing the product value.

Furthermore, in conventional manual grading, the grades are determined from among the fruits and vegetables on the grading machine, so the fruits and vegetables at hand change over time, causing variations in the criteria for sorting, but with the present invention. Since the standard value of the degree of coloration is set and determined by measuring with a color sensor camera, it does not change depending on the time of day. Since it is only necessary to inspect parts that are outside the field of view and have been overlooked, correction work is simplified and streamlined.
