Abstract

PURPOSE: In reacting vinyl chloride with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of both a rhodium compound and a base, to obtain the titled compound in high yield at a lower temperature and lower pressure than a conventional method, by using a phosphine linked to a styrene polymer as the base.
CONSTITUTION: In producing the titled compound useful as an intermediate for chemicals, agricultural chemicals, drugs, etc., by reacting vinyl chloride with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of both a rhodium compound and a base, (i) at least one phospine linked to a styrene polymer preferably combined with (ii) a nitrogen-containing compound having 3W11 pKa, especially at least one of a pyridine compound, a quinoline compound, an imidazole compound and a morpholine compound is used as the base to give the aimed compound advantageously and in a higher catalytic activity than that of a conventional method. Addition of water or carboxylic acid to the reaction system further raises selectivity for the aimed compound.
