Abstract

PURPOSE: To execute the mass production, to make light and to decrease the cost by forming a lattice type collimating lens, a lattice type 1/4 wavelength plate and a lattice type biaxial lens at the incident and emitting surface of a polarizing beam splitter.
CONSTITUTION: The irradiating light 2 of a semiconductor laser 1 is made incident on and made parallel to a lattice type collimating lens 4, made incident on a lattice type 1/4 wavelength plate 5, converted from the linear polarization to the circular polarization, focused by a focusing lens 7, and comes to be a focusing spot 8 of a bit column 9 on the disk. The reflecting light from the disk surface is converted to the linear polarization through the focusing lens 7 by the lattice type 1/4 wavelength plate 5 again, reflected by a polarizing beam splitter 3, converted to a focusing beam 11 by a lattice type biaxial lens 10 and made incident on a four-divided photodetecting device 12. When the disk surface is dislocated in the optical axis direction, the surface arrives at a photodetecting device 12 non-symmetrically to the center line due to the astigmatism, and therefore, by obtaining the right and left differential signals, the focus error can be detected. Thus, the optical head can be obtained which is excellent in mass production, low-price and light.
