Abstract

Medium to be cooled flows into a barrel 2 at a barrel inlet nozzle 4, is guided to a baffle 3 arranged to get a proper flow speed and repeat a zig-zag flow, perform a required heat exchange and then flow out at a barrel outlet nozzle 5. A sea water heat exchanger using as its cooling source sea water has a surplus thermal conducting area due to a low temperature of sea water in winter season. Closing plates 10 are forcedly pushed at the right and left thermal conducting pipe ends at this surplus part so as to be close the pipe ends. Therefore, the sea water does not flow into the thermal conducting pipes and a corrosion and etching etc. are prevented. A repetition of such a use in sequence very winter causes a life of the unit to be extended more than the case in which all the thermal conducting pipes are used with sea water circulating in them all the year round.
