Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a dried core/shell type emulsion-polymerized particle which is suitable for use as a filler for improving the moldability and impact resistance of polycarbonate resins, by forming the core part by using a thermoplastic resin having a glass transition point higher than that of the shell part.
CONSTITUTION: A polymerizable vinyl monomer is emulsified by using an emulsifier and seed latex particles are then formed by using a redox catalyst. A monomer capable of forming a thermoplastic resin having a high glass transition point (e.g., styrene) is fed an polymerized in the presence of an oil-soluble radical generating agent to produce a core part. A monomer capable of forming a thermoplastic resin which has a relatively low glass transition point and is highly hydrophilic (e.g., butyl acrylate) is fed and polymerized to produce a shell part. The resulting core/shell type emulsion-polymerized particles are separated and dried. When the dried particles are dispersed in a polycarbonate resin, the impact resistance, etc., can be improved.
