Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the gradation characteristic of images over a wide density ratio by arranging N-pieces of dots to constitute a unit pattern in such a manner that light transmittivity vary from each other and that the arrangement of the light transmittivities conforms to the arrangement sequence of the threshold value in dither method. CONSTITUTION:A halftone pattern filter 143 is held in extreme proximity to a photosensitive body and light is irradiated on the photosensitive body from behind the filter 143. The unit pattern of the halftone pattern is arranged with, for example, 16 dots in a 4X4 matrix shape. The arrangement of the sequence numbers 1-16 of the light transmittivities conforms to the threshold value arrangement of the 4X4 dither matrix in the dither method. More specifically, the transmittivity of the dot of the sequence number 1 within the dots is smallest and the light transmittivity of the dot of the sequence number 16 is largest. The gradation characteristic is thereby improved over the wide density ratio from the low to high densities.
