Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the heating efficiency of a heat pump type air conditioner, by a method wherein the starting of defrosting is controlled as a coil tempera ture and humidity are always monitored.
CONSTITUTION: During heating operation of an air conditioner, a coil tempera ture and humidity are always sensed by a coil temperature thermistor 7 and a humidity sensor 8, and the results are outputted through a temperature detecting circuit 15 and a humidity detecting circuit 16 to a microcomputer 11. From the coil temperature and the humidity, the microcomputer 11 decides whether the coil temperature and the humidity are within a frosting region, and when within the defrosting region, after a specified time lapse, a 4-way valve coil relay 12 is brought into an OFF-state to start defrosting. When a coil temperature is increased to higher than a specified value, an ON-signal is sent to the relay 12 to restart heating operation. A coil temperature and humidity are sensed again and it it decided whether they are in a frosting region, and in the following, above control is continued.
